Space Building Committee Absent ; Mucci The Meeting called to order C 7 - 45 Pm at the high School Library. This meeting is to discuss Art 21-Town Hall Renovations. The M.S.B.Committee Presented a modified Town Hall Renovation Plan which would involve building the Proposed connector at a cost of $1,950,000, now. The other components (bringing the town ha.11 S: libra.ry up to code, repairing roofs & windows, extending new heating & ventilating to the existing bldgs etc. ) will be done as funds become a.va.ila.ble. After the MSBC Presentation there was genera.l discussion involving the Selectmen, FinCom & several observers. The selec=tmen then voted a Position of supporting the MSBC concept by a. vote of 4-0-0. They then voted to approve the amount of $125,000 for Plans etc. b:% 4-0-0. Finance Committee then voted to reconsider Article 21 by a vote of E-0-0. A motion wa.s made to a.mmend the amount of Art 21 to $125,000. Discussion centered around whether this would committ the town to the total Project with a. final cost of $3,900,000 & whether this would affect the Fire Station issue. Spread sheets were Passed out showing the most optimistic forc.asts Possible and still disPlayed large defecits over the next 10 Years even if bonding on1Y 3 million dolla.rs. Voted riot to recommend art 21 in the amount of $125,000 by a. vote of 4-4-0 <tie fails) The •cha.irma.n then disclosed the results of a meeting with the towns Labor Lawyer, Alan Orachman, which he attended along with the town manager, Chairman of Selectmen, Super. of schools and the chairman of School Committee. The upshot of that meeting is that most municipal unions, including teachers,are settling in the 5.51. to 6.5% range. The issues this Year will be basically MONEY. Not fringes or Education advancements etc. The la.wVer is thinVing of offering a wage PACKdge tied to a formula involving the growth of State Aid among other factors. It a.lso a.PPea.rs that there will be little resistance from LPolice & Fire to 4 recission of Readings Participation in r the Civil Service System. (Could save some moneY esPecia.IIY on costs of new hirings. ) Also mentioned that BINDING ARBITRATION for Police 8. Fire is still alive in the State House.
