HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996-09-24 Finance Committee Minutes w Finance Committee September 24, 1996 The meeting came to order at 7:40 pm in the A.W. Coolidge Middle School library. In attendance were Steve Blewitt,Carol Grimm,Tom Green,Cathy Martin and Nate White from the Finance Committee. Also present were members of the School Committee, Dr. Harutunian, Principal John Doherty, and members of the Coolidge School Council and Coolidge Building Committer. Richard McDonald was introduced as the newest member of the Finance Committee. Mr. McDonald joins the Finance Committee after serving one year on the Capital Improvements Advisory Subcommittee. Principal Doherty led a tour of the school and discussed a number of areas in need of capital improvement (see attached handout). The group returned to the library at approximately 8:40 pm for a brief Q&A session. The Finance Committee recessed at 9:00 pm to travel to Town Hall. Messrs. Nenarella, Keigley and McDonald (Gerry)joined the Committee at that time. The Finance Committee returned to session at 9:15 pm in the Town Hall Conferene Room. The Coolidge School was discussed. Mr.Nenarelia suggested that prior to adding space at the school,"flexible hours'should be investigated to make better use of the existing facility. Mr.Blewitt indicated that he would communicate this to the School Department. Liaison reports were made by Mr. Keigley and Mr. Nenarella regarding the September 16 School Committee meeting and Ms.Grimm regarding the CIAS's visit to Joshua Faton and her attendance at a joint 4 School Committee and School Building Committee meeting regarding RMHS. At approximately 10:00 pro the Finance Committee joined the Board of Selectmen to discuss the Downtown Steering Committee's request for $20,000 for a consultant, and a presentation by Fire Chief Wood and Police Chief Marchand regarding Public Safety needs.
