Finance Connittee meeting January 31, 1996 FEB I 7 o2 py 'gg The Finance Committee met at 7:00 P.M. in the Conference Room at Town Hall . Present were Chairman Steve Blewitt, Vice Chairman Jim Keigley, FinCom members Gerry MacDonald, Nate White, Carol Grimm, Jerry Vitale, Rocco Nenarella, Tom Green Jr. , Catherine Martin, and Secretary Maureen Vierra. Approval of minutes: On a motion by White seconded by Martin the Finance Committee voted to approve the minutes of January 17, 1996 by a vote of 8/0/0. On a motion by Green seconded by Martin the Finance Committee voted to approve the minutes of January 27, 1996 by a vote of 4/0/4. Liaison Reports: Rocco Nenarella met with the Human Service Department and the General Services department . He submitted a summary of their preliminary FY97 budget new project list that will require additional funding. The Human Service Department anticipates requesting an additional $900.00 for mosquito control service, $2500.00 to expand the hours of the Meals on Wheels program coordinator and $48 ,000.00 to replace the department van with a commercial grade van. General Services will be requesting $32,000.00 to hire a Personnel administrator and may request funds to hire a Grants coordinator. Gerry MacDonald met with the Fire Department on January 5, 1996. Although the Chief did not have any cost figures related to the new requests, a list of requests and current budget concerns were obtained. Their main area of concern is the Service/Maintenance Repair budget. They may need additional funds in FY96 . New requests include Heaters for the pumpers, automatic snow chains for the fire trucks, and the hiring of an Assistant Chief . In addition, the equipment ( including vehicles) will need to get their National Safety Certification and may be quite costly. The Capital Improvement Committee is going to the Coolidge school on February 1 , 1996 to attend a presentation on the school 's needs. This presentation will be given by Superintendent of Schools Harry Harutunian. In addition, Killam school will require a new roof due to damages sustained during the snow removal attempt last month. This may be covered by insurance. Gerry Vitale is working with the Police Chief to obtain a complete list of department vehicles which will provide Fincom with the year , make , model and mileage of all police vehicles. LI z v On a motion by MacDonald seconded by Keigley, the Finance Committee voted to review all budgets as scheduled and defer the voting until March 6, March 11 , and March 13 , 1996, as necessary, by a vote of 9/0/0. On a motion by Vitale seconded by MacDonald the Finance Committee voted to adjourn at 9: 00 p.m. The next meeting of the Finance Committee will be held at 7:00 p.m. on February 7, 1996 at Town Hall.
