Finance Committee Meeting

The Finance Committee met at 7:30 p.m. in the Meeting Room�X
the Public Library. Present were Chairman Steve Blewitt,
Vice Chairman Jim Keigley, FinCom members Gerry MacDonald,
Nate White, Carol Grimm, Jerry Vitale, Rocco Nenarella, Tom
Green Jr. , Catherine Martin, Town Manager Peter
Hechenbleikner and Secretary Maureen Vierra.
Approval of Minutes:
On a motion by MacDonald seconded by Grimm the Finance
Committee voted to approve the minutes of July 24, 1995 by a
vote of 8/0/1 .
Liaison Reports:
The CIAS Appointment Committee announced the appointment of
three new members to the CLAS. Elected were Robert
Cavicchi , Richard McDonald, and Charles Peacock. A CIAS
meeting will be held within the next few weeks and election
of new officers is anticipated.
At a recent Audit Committee meeting Steve Blewitt gave a copy
of the Finance Committee' s request and vote in regard to
their wish that Peat Marwick focus the Audit on the School
Department. Specif ' the Finance Committee would like
the audit to focus tie process of how purchases are
made and coded for a pecial Education and Building
Departments.
The 25 Haven Street Task force has not had a meeting since
Carol Grimm joined the committee. Peter Hechenbleikner
reported that the Downtown Steering Committee has been trying
to solicit new business into Reading and is informing
potential businesses about the available site.
The Police Station Renovation Committee is still reviewing
possible locations to build a new station. Renovation of the
old station continues to be considered.
Action and Discussion Items:
The Finance Committee assigned FinCom members to several
departments to act as liaisons during the budgeting process.
These assignments are as follows:

On a motion by MacDonald seconded by Keigley the Finance
Committee voted to approve the reserve fund transfer of
$1 ,750.00 to account 01-012 for retreat expenses by a vote of
9/0/0.
Peter Hechenbleikner reported that the State of Massachusetts
certified the amount of free cash as of July 1 , 1995 in the
amount of $1 ,755,495.00.
Steve Blewitt recommended the re-scheduling of meeting with
the School Department until they have completed the
recapitulation of the FY95 School Department Budget.
The next meeting of the Finance Committee is scheduled for
September 27, 1995 at 7 : 30 p.m.
