The Finance Committee met at 7:00 p.m. in the Conference Room
at Town Hall. Present were Chairman Richard Coco, Vice
Chairman Fred VanMagness, FinCom members Gerry MacDonald, Jim
Keigley, Nate White, Carol Grimm, Steve Blewitt, Town Manager
Peter Hechenbleikner and Secretary Maureen Vierra. Also
present were Tim Twomey, Dr. Robert Munnelly, Tom Stohlman,
Matt Cummings, Dennis Richards, and George Shannon.
On a motion by VanMagness seconded by Keigley and approved by
a roll call vote the Finance Committee entered into Executive
Session.
On a motion by Stolhman seconded by Cummings and approved by
a roll call vote the School Committee entered into Executive
Session at 7 : 20 pm.
The School Department reduced the budget request for
Personnel Services from $762 , 306.00 to $552 , 306 .00 and
increased the request for Custodian ' s salaries from
$1 , 819 ,030 .00 to $1 ,831 ,030.00. The net result is a decrease
in the School Department budget in the amount $198,000 .00
bringing the total request from $18, 206 , 506.00 to
$18,008 ,506 .00.
The School Department hopes to negotiate the Teacher ' s raises
to be effective January 1 , 1996 instead of July 1 , 1995 which
reflects the $210,000.00 reduction. Teacher ' s raises are
based on a 2' % increase. All non-teacher positions are
based on a 3% raise.
Dr. Munnelly pointed out that there are other factors other
than salaries that will be on the bargaining table. The
State is looking at lengthening the school year and school
day which may have additional financial impact on the Town.
On a motion by MacDonald seconded by Blewitt the Finance
Committee voted to adjourn the Executive Session by a roll
call vote.
On a motion by Stohlman seconded by Cummings the School
Department voted to adjourn Executive Session by a roll call
vote.
