Public Meeting postponed from February 20, 1934. 4W The meeting was called to order at 8.05 o'clock by the Chairman. There were four citizens present in response to the call of the Public Meeting. The Clerk read the articles that had been filed for the warrant. Mr. Maurice Reebenacker appeared to speak for article sponsored by 40 him calling for an appropriation for a police ambulance. He stated that he was voicing the opinion of a number of people who felt that a properly equipped ambulance was a necessity. Mr. Henry R. Johnson spoke against the article calling for a change in the personal of the Law Committee. Mr. Johnson also spoke in favor of placing the wires on Haven Street underground from Main Street to High ow Street. He felt that the business men on Haven Street were entitled to the same type of lighting as in the square. He stated that the article was placed in the warrant in response to a petition signed by all of the business men on Haven Street. He also stated that the cost could not be financed without a bond issue . Mr. R. W. Woodward, Jr. spoke at some length regarding tennis courts in our park system. He urged that consideration be given to the Public Works budget relating to the recreation. Public Meeting adjourned 9.15 P.M. The School Committee represented by Mr. Coolidge and Mr. Tanner appeared regarding C.W.A. projects . He stated that if the painting of tar school buildings under C.W.A. was approved, the department would require about $1000.00 for material. They also presented a matter of a fence around the Athletic Field at the Junior High School stating that it would require about 1400 feet at a cost of $1820.00. Theya also presented the matter of bleachers for the Athletic Field and stated that the cost of same would be about $3,096.00, which would be materially reduced if this was accepted as a C.W.A. project and the labor and part of the cost of material provided by the Commonwealth. Mr. Roberts of the sub-committee on the S3iectmenfs budget, having been in conference with the Selectmen, went over the different items and explainer the reason for what increased amounts wera asked for. The Board of Publia +velfare present their budget for 1934 as follows: Administrative Expenses $5,350.00 Aid, Board & Care 50,000.00 Temporary Aid 13,000.00 Mothors8 Aid 6,000.00 Old Age Assistance 14 000.00 §8811350.00 The Board of Public Works were called to discuss the matter of furnish- ing labor on various projects which would relieve the Welfare pay-roll and it was also proposed that the Welfare appropriation be decreased by an amount to be added tc the Public Works appropriation which would place the Welfare Workers under the direction of the Board of Public Works and would be paid by them. J Meeting February 23, 1934. There was a general discussion of several Public Works projects and no votes were taken. Adjourned 11.30 P.M. Members present: Ohm. Mount, Haley, Scott, Connelly, Roberta, Merrill, Currell, Canty, Devaney, Crocker. Clerk. Finence Committee Meeting February 27, 1934. The meeting was called to order at 8.05 o'cloc'.s by the Chairman. After some informal discussion regarding the financial situation of the town from available information, the entire budget for 1934 was taken up. The following votes were taken: Tinder General Government, the amount estimated were voted with the following exceptions : Collector' s Salary - Estimated $2300.00 Recommend $2066.00 Assessors' Salaries- " 1800.00 " 1761.00 Assessors' Clerical- " 2340.00 " 2165.60 Block System Survey if 300.00 " 200.00 The items Town Counsel' s Salary and Town Counsel' s Expenses were passed over.-- Under ver.-Under General Accounts the amounts estimated were voted with the exception of Fire Stations Maintenance elid Planning Board Expenses which were passed over. ?ruder Protection of Persons and Property the amounts estimated were all voted. Under Health and Sanitation the salary of Inspector of Plumbing 3 estimated $800.00 - voted $761.00. Voted 91000 for Sewer House Connections.
