HomeMy WebLinkAbout1933-02-14 Finance Committee Minutes Meeting February 14, 1933. the meeting was called to order at 8 o'clock. the Municipal Light Department, Chairman Johnson, Mr. Evans and Supt. Sias, were present, regarding matters concerning the Light Department. Mr. Sias gave a long and detailed account of the operation of the store for the sale of appliances. Several other matters pertaining to the Depart- ment were discussed and a number of questions put by members of the Committee were answered. The matter of placing wire underground on Main Street in event of repairing, was discussed and the Superintendent stated that the cost would be about $20,000, including new street lights. This outlay could be met from the Depreciation Account. He also referred to the necessity of re-locating poles on Haverhill Street, if proposed work was done on the high-way. The special committee on Public Works reported referring especially to the possibility of extending the use of the sewer system by a selling campaign and arranging for partial payments for house connection work. 60 There was considerable discussion relative to Public Works projects and their relation to the matter of furnishing labor for the unemployed. The records of the last meeting were read and approved after a slight change. The Board of Selectmen reported that they had reduced items in their budget which would aggregate abount $4,000.00. No votes were taken. Meeting adjourned 10.45 P.M. Members present: Chm. Mount, Connelly, Devaney, Ellison, Fairchild, Canty, 40 Haley, Knox, Scott. C Clerk. Meeting February 23, 1933. The meeting was called to order at 8.05 o'clock. The Chairman announced that the Town Counsel had ruled that work done to on house connectionia for sewer on private land could not be apportioned over a term of years. he Chairman announced that he had called at the State Department of Public Works office with Mr. Putnam regarding contemplated work on Haverhill Street. This conference was held with a view to the probability of giving work to unemployed men. Mr. Putnam was asked to be present this evening and a general discusion of the matter was held but not votes were taken at this time. The budget for 1933 was then taken up. The Committee voted to approve the final estimates shown on the schedule attached and becoming a pert of this report.
