HomeMy WebLinkAbout1951-11-05 Board of Public Works Minutes 161 Reading, Mass. , November 5, 1951 �j The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:00 P.M. Chairman Hopkins, Messrs. Calvin, Harrison, and Superintendent Welch were present. Received letter from Retirement Board to the effect that Mr. Robert J. Morrow was retired from the Town service as of October 31, 1951. Placed on file. Received letter from Personnel Board approving an increase in salary for John Fleming as Chief of Survey Party. Placed on file. Received letter from William F. Reilly, Pastor of St. Agnes Church requesting an apron to the new driveway at the new parochial school. Voted to construct apron as requested. Discussed Snow and Ice Funds. Voted to request the Finance Committee to transfer $1,600 from the Reserve Fund to the Snow and Ice Account. Following Granite Curb applications received, approved, and placed on file: William Behnke 218 West Street 1/// Cecil Terhune 24 Tower Road Following Bituminous Concrete Sidewalk applications received, approved, and placed on file: Cecil Terhune 24 Tower Road Temporarily adjourned at 8:00 P.M. to meet as Board of Survey. 162 Reconvened at 8:30 P.M. •■ Received long letter from Frank Merrill, of Merrill Real ■ Estate Service containing many statements relative to charges made for various water main extensions . Each statement was discussed individually and at length. It was agreed that all charges have been properly made and that Mr. Merrill still owes the department $80 for the extension in Woodland Road. Voted to instruct Superintendent ter write to Mr. Merrill to that effect. Received letter from Mr. Henry Thompson relative to drainage conditions in the rear of a new house he is building on Lot 10, Harvard Street. ) Board will investigate. ■ Received petition from several abuttors on Knollwood Road 1 complaining that the water supply is insufficient. This section of main is listed for replacement in 1952, providing materials and funds are available. Voted to write Selectmen suggesting that persons having permits to transport rubbish to the Town Dump be required to have stickers on the car windows. Considered proposed 1952 report to Capital Budgeting Committee. Voted to submit report as approved. Signed Manhole Location Plan for Malden & Melrose Gas Co. on John Street opposite the liquid petroleum storage plant. j Signed 1951 Sidewalk Assessment lists. 1 Signed 1951 Granite Curbing Assessment lists. /1100- 163 Voted to hold next regular meeting of the Board on Monday, LNovember 26, 1951.
