HomeMy WebLinkAbout1951-09-24 Board of Public Works Minutes h� 15 5 I Reading, Mass. , September 24, 1951 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:00 P. M. Messrs. Calvin, Donahue, Harrison and Superintendent Welch were present. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Following Granite Curbing Applications received, approved and placed on file: Clayton Smith - 11 Springvale Road Received letter from Selectmen relative to tax title land off Main Street in rear of Lynch and Mansfield. (Tax Title 614, Lot 4, Plat 81) 1 Voted to inform Selectmen this Board does not have any use for this land. Received notice from Selectmen that they have voted to grant the reouest of Chester Putnam that he be retired as of September 7, 1951. Voted to write to Chester Putnam offering the best wishes of the Board. Received letter from Selectmen requesting that a directional sign pointing to Reading Square be erected at the corner of Woburn and West Streets. Mr. Harry Luscombe and Mr. Thomas Blake of Belmont Street conferred with the Board relative to drainage through, so called, Timberneck Ditch. Board will investigate. Received notice from State Department of Public Works stating that a hearing will be held on Thursday, October 10, 1951, at the 156 Middlesex County Commissioner's Office to discuss Chapter 90 program for 1952. Voted to submit the following requests for 1952: Town County State Charles Street Constr. 10,000 10,000 20,000 Chapter 90 Maintenance 11000 1,000 1,000 Voted 'the following pole location change: Cement S.L. Pole #8 - Haven St. - North Side - moved 10 feet easterly Voted the following underground conduit location: Lowell Street - Northerly from Willow and Grove Streets. Starting at MH21 extending across Lowell Street to the northerly sidewalk and then northwesterly in the sidewalk location 282 feet to Pole 53/51. Signed two copies of dissolution of Easement for the Ordway ' Pit which have been previously executed by Mrs. Edna Ordway as. ex- ecutrix of the will of Orville Ordway. Discussed, at length, the possibility of using Bituminous Concrete on betterment sidewalks and the more extensive use of Bituminous Concrete on maintenance work. Voted not to assess betterments on the abuttors for the Bituminous Concrete sidewalk installed in the north side of Haven Street between Chute Street and Linden Street. _ Signed Order of Taking for Drain Easement off Pearl Street through lands of McLellan, Burley, Morrison and Christenson. Signed Gas Main Location plan for Glenmere Circle from Winslow Road to Winslow Road. - Signed Gas Main Location plan for natural gas feed line from the Wilmington Town Line Southerly to near the Wakefield Town Line. Thelocationis entirely within the Boston and Maine Right of Way 157 except on High Street between Woburn Street and Washington Street where it lies on the westerly side of High Street. Voted to spend balance of 1951 Sidewalk Funds for resurfac- ing black top sidewalks on Woburn Street west of railroad tracks. Hoard adjourned at 10:30 P. M.
