HomeMy WebLinkAbout1951-09-04 Board of Public Works Minutes 153 Reading, Mass . , September 4, 1951 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works .opened at 7:00 P. M. Chairman Hopkins, Messrs. Calvin, Harrison, Walker and Super- intendent Welch were present. Mr. Walker acted as Secretary. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Superintendent reported that Light Department will withdraw petition for pole location at 91 South Street and submit a new peti- tion for a different location. Received" petition from several abuttors on Lewis Street and County Road requesting that steps be taken to better the drainage 1 conditions in this area. Petition was accompanied by a letter from the Suffolk Savings Bank. Voted to make a survey of the area as soon as is possible. Received letter from Finance Committee stating they will hold a meeting on the evening of September 14, 1951, in preparation for the Special Town Meeting of September 17, 1951. Following Granolithic sidewalk applications received, approved and placed on file: Andrew Nestor - 27 Auburn Street Thomas Farrell - 85 Green Street ✓ William Atwood 34 Wescroft Road Following Granite Curbing application received, approved and placed on file: 1Thomas Farrell - 85 Green Street Received ✓ letter from Raymond Mann, 322 Summer Avenue request- ing an abatement on his July, 1951, water bill because of leaks in plumbing. 154 Voted not to make any abatement. Superintendent reported that New England Telephone and Telegraph Company has completed arrangements to install an outdoor telephone booth on the lawn of the Reading Inn. Voted to hold next meeting of Board on Monday evening, September 24, 1951. Discussed general personnel problems in relation to future classifications and schedule. Board adjourned at 9:00 P. M.
