Reading, Mass. , August 13, 1951

The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at
7:00 P.M.
Chairman Hopkins, Messrs. Donahue, Harrison, Calvin and
Assistant Superintendent James T. Putnam were present.
Records of previous meeting read and approved.
Considered change of name of Cedar Crest (Private) Road, off
South Street, due to similarity with Cedar Street. Voted to
communicate with Mr. Carl E. Englund and suggest that he choose
a new name for Cedar Crest Road, and advise Board of his decision
by August 27, 1951.
Received letter from Mr. Arthur C. Aldrich, Attorney, request-
ing interview for his client, the Reading Lumber Co. , to discuss
drainage conditions between Bolton (Private) Street and the Goodall-
Sanford factory. Voted to invite Mr. Aldrich and representatives
of the Reading Lumber Co. to meet with the Board on Monday, August
27, 1951, at 8:30 P.M.
Received petition from property owners on Crosby (Private)
Road to accept Crosby (Private) Road as a Public Town Way.
Voted to accept petition and clear same through regular
channels .
Mr. Kohler, 140 Oak Street, interviewed Board regarding
drainage conditions on Oak Street abutting his property. Condition
will be investigated.
' Mr. & Mrs. Moore, 89 Grove Street, appeared before Board to
report property damage from storm water running off Grove Street
across their property, and to ask relief from a possible recurrence
of same in the future. Condition to be investigated.

Mr. Earl R. Hutchinson, 24 Elliott Street, appeared before
Board to report inadequate supply of water to his residence, due
to the fact that Elliott Street is serviced by a 1f" water main,
with several users.
Voted to investigate 1j" water main situation in •general in
Reading.
Received petition for larger water main to replace present
1T'" main on John Street (Private) Court from four property owners
thereon.
Voted to lay petition on table until Board has opportunity
to investigate 1-j" water main situation.
Received copy of 1951 Chapter 90 Maintenance Contract, duly
signed by State Department of Public Works.
Discussed personnel problems at some length. '
Letter received from Personnel Board approving the appoint-
ment of John Louanis as Pumping Station Engineer at a salary of
$64.00 per week.
Mr. & Mrs. Elliott A. Court, 205 Pearl Street, appeared before
Board and requested permission to erect a wood frame garage over a
portion of a drain easement running through their property.
Voted permission, provided garage does not interfere with -
proper functioning of the storm drain pipe.
Received two copies of Release of Easement from Town Counsel
regarding the dissolution and abandonment of easement covering the
removal of sand, stone, loam and gravel from the estate of the late
Orville 0. Ordway, situated northeasterly of Grove Street. ,
Voted abandonment and signed two copies of Release of
Easement.
