HomeMy WebLinkAbout1951-05-14 Board of Public Works Minutes 131 Reading, Mass. , May 14, 1951 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:00 P.M. Chairman Hopkins, Messrs. Donahue, Calvin, Harrison, Walker, and Superintendent Welch were present. Records of meetings of May 7, 1951, April 30, 1951, and . April 26 , 1951 read and approved. Held Meeting with following members of School Committee: Messrs . Glover, Morton, Griffin, Crosby, Turner, and Supt. Lord. Discussion covered the possible use of portions of the Birch Meadow Playground by the School Committee after the new high school is completed. Discussion was on generalities only and no definite ' conclusions were reached. Voted to approve all actions taken by the Board at the meeting of May 9, 1951. Voted to post Leach Park to the effect that no ball playing of any kind will be allowed. Signed four copies for new gravel wall well pumps and equipment which had been executed by D. L. Maher Co. Voted to buy one new Gardner Denver compressor from the Moore Norris Co. , at the bid price of $2,400.00. Voted to buy one new GMC Station Wagon from Earl Hobart for the bid price of $1,638.00. Voted to buy two five-ton trucks from the Sterling Motors ' Corp. including new body and hoist and also including transfer of hoist for the bid price of $16,415.00. Voted to authorize Superintendent .to issue dates for base- ball and softball as recuests are received. 132 Following Granite Curbing applications received, approved, and placed on file: Howard Torrey 247 Summer Avenue A Following Granolithic Sidewalk applications received, approved and placed on file: n Howard Torrey 249 Summer Avenue Voted following pole location: Haverhill St. - West side - Pole 40/34 - abandoned Received letter from the American Legion requesting use of truck and man on the morning of May 30, 1951. Voted to approve request. Received letter from Royal Ambassadors requesting use of the Washington Street ballfield every Tuesday evening, from May 8, 1951, to July 3, 1951. , Voted to approve request. Signed plan for Gas Main location in Glenmere Circle. Voted to hold next two meetings of Board on May 28, 1951, and June 11, 1951. Board adjourned at 10:30 P.M.
