Meeting March 8, 1932..:
The meeting; was called to order by the Chainmen at 8.10 o' clock.
r:r. Comlidge, chairman of the School uoard appeared on invitation to
further discuss the school budget. Ile stated th^ t after going over again
very carefully the different items, he felt that the most which. the budget
could be reduced was , in addition to the Q8,850.00 already deductee
making the total reduction ae answered several questions put
to him by members of the Committee and leaving assured the Committee that
the money provided for school expenditures would be most carefully expended.
The Municipal Light 0oard appeared, Chairman Johnson, Leker, Evans and
Supt. Sias. iir. Johnson was first asked to present Article 25, underground
installation on Haven Street. ;Ie stated that this Article was inserted in
60 the warrant in response to a petition from about thirty-five business men
located on Haven Street who felt that this business street should be as well
lighted as Potain Street in the business area. L,r. "ias outlined briefly the
work contemplated which would cost approximately k20,000.00, part of which
could be financed by transfer from depreciation bund and the balance by
bond issue. Chairman Johnson stated that the above matter would not be
pressed by the Board although the feeling was th^t wort: could be done

this time At a lower cost than in the future . Mr. Baker and II:r.
spoke along the same line . they both expressed the opinion that if the
street was to be better lighted it would be economy to install the under-
ground, r^.they than to increase the number of lights on the present over-
head system.
There was a general discussion of Municipal Light matters lead by Cho.
I:!ount, the purpose of which was to ascertain if the Department could turn
back to the town or pay to the Town the amount of profit shovm in their
reports which in the past several Years had amounted to over •1100,000.00.
It was suggested that the motion made under Article 23 could be changed so
that beginning with 1932 this profit could be used to reduce the amount
raised by the tax levy. This discussion last for over an hour and brought
out several matters of interest to the Committee. after the Light 15oard
left, further discussion was held regarding the form of motion to be made
and later Mr. Johnson returned and stated that the board would prefer to have

back to the Town :12,000 in lieu of estimated profits in 1932. It wss voted
that it was the sense of the meeting that the proposal referred to above was
acceptable to the Finance Committee.
The School Department budget was next taken up. It was voted that
$189,600.00 be recommended for School Salaries and $49,400 for General School
Maintenance making a total of 42393000.00 . �n amendment was offered by Mr.
Devsneg changing the amount for School Maintenance to x,48, 150.00 making a
total of �237,750.00. the amendment was voted.
Under Article 24 it was voted to recommend the building of an addition
to the i.:unicipal Light garage, the cost not to exceed 43,000.00.
The Selectmen ' s budget was next taken up and the following votes were
passed:
Voted to rescind the vote of P'ebruary 25, Election and Registration
Expenses $ 1500 and to recommend j1300; Miscellaneous Expenses 43000 to
72925.00; Municipal Building Expense 42200 to 42000; Eire Stations maintenance
21150 to y1050; Police Dept. Maintenance .r2500 to 42100; Fire Dept. Plain-
tenanee ,52500 to x2000; Fire Alarm laaintenance 41300 to x;7200* Moth Dept.
Maintenance $6000 to x5900; Tree 'garden Maintenance 42500 to 42250; Forest

to 1200; Military Aid '3100 to '150.00.
'1'he Chairman read the preamble which he had written to the Finance
Committee report and asked for suggestions. It we.s voted that the Clerk be
authorized to affix the names of all the members of the Committee to the
report .
