HomeMy WebLinkAbout1932-01-12 Finance Committee Minutes Meeting January 12, 1932. AIV The meeting was called to order at 6.05 P.M. . The records of the last meeting were read and approved. The Clerk explained, speaking as Town Accountant, stating that through an error of hos own, the 75� transfer asked for should have been 50¢ greater, or $1.25. This latter amount he had transferred in order L to balance the account for 1931 and asked the committee to confirm the charge of 75� to «1.25. It was so voted. The Board of Selectmen, Chm. Morrison, Mrs. Sweetser, and Mr. Leman, January appeared 18,g1932.1g the articles in the Mr. Morrison reported one the £expenditure or Special rof 0600Meetwhich was ordered transferred by the Finance Committee for work in 1931. He stated that work had been done in Memorial Park preparing a skating pond and in the Cemetery preparing land for additional graves, and in the Town Forest clearing land and cutting brush; also cutting brush along the road sides. He presented Article 2 oft he Warrant calling for { 3000 for Emergency Unemployment Relief, outlining the need of furnishing work and the method of handling the situation. He also spoke in favor of Article 5 relating to indemnifying the Commonwealth from claims for land damages resulting from construction of sidewalks on the State Highway. Under Article 8, speaking for the Law Committee, he advised the appropria- tion of x;125.00 for settlement of claims against the Town. Article 10, he explained that the easement granted Galen A. Parkerdet al, was no longer needed and advised that the same be vacated. The Board of Selectmen were then dismissed. Mr. Devaney reported for the Sub-committee on School matters and among other things stated that he had discussed the matter of teachers ? salaries and that the Chairman stated that contracts with the teachers were made to run until the end of the school year, so that any reduction in salaries would consequently not take effect until September. '"here was a general discussion of School Butters. No votes were taken. "'ie Board of Public '.'forks, Chairman Hartshorn and Supt. Birnie appeared for Article 6 calling for an appropriation of 02200 for the improvement of Libby Avenue . He explained the great need of improving this street and recommended that it be accepted as a public way and the appropriation voted. He stated that the total cost of the improvement would be assessed upon the owners of abutting property. Votes were taken on the various articles in the warrant as follows; Article 2 Recommend 9"3,000.00 3 11 774.74 4 No recommendation 5 Recommend 6 Recommend 02,200.00 7 No recommendation 8 Recommend 0125.00 9 No necomnendation 10 Recommend Mr. Killam reported that the Board of Public Works apparently did not favor pay reductions. Gtr. Connelly reported that in answer to his inquiry iT�•• regarding salaries from the Board of Assessors, he was referred to budget sent to Mr. Bent early in December.
