HomeMy WebLinkAbout1930-02-12 Finance Committee Minutes Meeting February 5, 1930. The meeting was called to order at 8 o' clock. Mr. Ralph J. Keneely appeared and presented the budget for 1930 for the Public Library. The School Committee appearedwith the School Department budget for 1930. Chairman Carl. M. Spencer, Dr. Harold A. Carnes, Mr. Arthur Coolidge, Mr. Logan R. Dickie, Mrs. Marion B. Temple and Mrs. Josephine L. Fowler. The budget was discussed for some time, several items being debated especially those con- cerning repairs to building and improvement to grounds The PlanningPBoard was next heard. Chm. L. 1q. Kingman, Mr. G. ..G. Poole, r. Winthrop , Mr. George 7. Davis were present, and presented the project of widening of �IwMain Street, showing plans and quoting figures as to the cost of land dKtakings and other matters entering into this improvement. Messrs. , Jr. , Forest H. Bryant and Mr. John L. Devaney were appointed a committee to attend a hearing before the Board of Public Works on February 6th. Adjourned: Members present: Chm. Fowler appeared for the Child "'elfars Work asking for an additional $ 100.00 appro- priation. She outlined the work of the pre-school clinic and need for a larger appropriation. Ihe Municipal Light board was next heard, . Mr. Harry L. Baker, Chairman and Mr. Arthur G. Sias, Supt ., The budget for 19:70 was presented and 't12,000 for street lighting was included. Mr. M. F. Charles appeared by courtesy of the committee to protest against the proposed widening of Main Street. He also recommended an increase in the salaries of the Board of Registrars, $85 for three members Ly X100 for the Clerk. It was voted unanimously to recommend appropriation of p3,000 for the Tercentenary Celebration. It was vobed to recommend appropriation of X600 for plans for Police Station Under Article 4 of the warrant for the special meetin§ February 17th, motion was made not to recommend. 11 voted "Do not recommend. Mrs. Gordon requested to be recorded as not voting. Under Article 5, it was unanimously voted not to recommend. Under Article 6, 11 voted notto recommend, 1 voted in favor.
