HomeMy WebLinkAbout1951-04-26 Board of Public Works Minutes 121 Reading, Mass. , April 26, 1951 ' The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 6:30 P.M. Chairman Hopkins, Messrs . Calvin, Harrison, Walker, and Superintendent Welch were present. Mr. Walker acted as Secretary. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Received letter from Town Counsel stating that in his opinion it would be proper to award the contract for a new gravel wall well pump and appurtenances to the low bidder of April 23, 1951, despite the fact that he did not file a letter stating the completion date for the job, providing he files such a letter before the contract is signed. Received letter from D. L. Mahar Co. , low bidder for gravel wall well, pumps and appurtenances giving approximate dates for completion of various items in proposed contract. Voted to award the contract for the new gravel wall well, pumps and appurtenances to the D. L. Mahar Co. , of Cambridge the low bidder on the basis of bids received at 8:00 P.M. on the evening of April 23, 1951. Received letter from School Committee stating that they will be pleased to meet with the Board of Public Works at 7:00 P.M. on the evening of May 14, 1951, to discuss the development of the Birch Meadow Playground. Received form notice from Selectmen relative to the employ- ment of disabled veterans. Discussed possibility of restricting the use of Leach Park for baseball. Laid on table. 122 Voted to grant Mrs. Comey an extra two weeks ' vacation with pay on the recommendation of the Superintendent. , Board adjourned at 7:30 P .M.
