HomeMy WebLinkAbout1951-04-16 Board of Public Works Minutes 116 Reading, Mass. , April 16, 1951 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at , 9:00 P.M. Chairman Hopkins, Messrs. Donahue, Harrison and Superintendent Welch were present. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Voted to abate the sum of $8.00 on the April 1951 water bill of Theodore Berle, 298 Ash Street. Votedto abate the sum of $10.00 on the April 1951 water bill of Edward Nichols, 1159 Main Street. Received petition from several abutters on Shipkin Avenue, requesting that the name of the street be changed. Placed on file pending date for hearing. Received letter from School Committee suggesting a point ' conference on April 23, 1951, with this Board relative to the development of Birch Meadow Playground near the proposed new High School. Superintendent instructed to write School Committee suggesting the evening of May 14, 1951. Conferred with an employee of the Department. Voted to approve the appointment of Mr. James Putnam as Asst. Superintendent as recommended by the Superintendent at a salary of $99.00 per week retroactive to April 1, 1951. Received letter from Wellington Brewster, 21 Winslow Road, requesting permission to connect a drain from his cellar to the public storm drain in Winslow Road. Permission granted subject to the usual provisions. Considered purchase of equipment as voted by the Town Meeting. 117 Voted to advertise for bids on all items. Voted to approve the appointment of Mr. John Fleming as Junior Office Engineer as recommended by the Superintendent at a salary of $50.00 per week retroactive to April 1, 1951. Voted to authorize Superintendent to choose two employees to serve as Assistant Pumping Station Engineers. Considered proposed methods of assessing street acceptance betterments on corner lots.
