Reading, Mass. , January 15, 1951
The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at
7:30 P.M.
Chairman Calvin, Messrs. Donahue, Hopkins, Walker, and
Superintendent Welch were present.
Received bids at 7:30 P.M. for the erection of an elevated
water storage tank .on Auburn Street.
Following is a list of bidders:
Pittsburgh Des Moines Co.
Item 1 $109,900.00
Chicago Bridge & Iron Works
Item 1 $115,300.00
These are firm prices and do not include any escalator
clause. Neither bidder gave any set date for the completion of
the job.
Board held conference with Mr. Morsley, representative of
the Pittsburgh Des Moines Co. during which many questions were
proposed to Mr. Morsley and which were answered by him.
It was moved, seconded and voted that the contract for
the erection of the elevated storage tank be awarded to the
Pittsburgh Des Moines Co.
Received letter from Mr. F. Willard of Pratt Place
requesting that Pratt Place be plowed during snow storms.
Voted to approve the request..
Voted to issue permit to Boy Scouts to hold a civil defense
exhibition on the Reading Common on Saturday, February 10, 1951.
Received letter from Chief of Fire Dept. requesting per-
mission to relocate the fire alarm box at the corner of Pleasant
Street and Parker Street. The box is to be moved onto the Lawn
of the Fire Station just inside the property line of Pleasant St.

Voted to grant the reouest of the Fire Dept.
Received petition from several abuttors on Orchard Park Drive
requesting that the sewer be extended in Summer Avenue and Orchard
Park Drive to service their properties.
Placed on file.
Received letter from State Dept. of Public Works listing
tentative allotments for 1951, Chapter 90 Const. and 1951 Chapter
90 Maintenance.
Received letter from Wallace & Tiernan cuoting price for
chlorinating eouipment at. the Filter Plant. Price is $1,93$.20
less $150.00 for old chlorinator.
Voted to purchase chlorinator.
Conferred with Finance Committee relative to two articles
in Warrant for Special Town Meeting of January 22, 1951.
Arranged to meet with Sub Committee of Finance Committee
on the evening of Wednesday, January 24, 1951, at 7:30 P.M.
Mr. Calvin and Mr. Hopkins reported on the meeting they had
with the Personnel Board on Wednesday January 10, 1951.
Discussed several items relative to proposed classifications
and salary limits .
Board adjourned at 11:30 P .M.
