Harrison, Hopkins, Walker were present. Mr. Walker acted as Chairman. - Mr. Hopkins acted as Secretary. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Voted to hold next two meetings of Board on Monday, Jan. 15, 1951 and Monday, Jan. 22, 1951. Voted to have Dept. employees remove junk from Mill Street Pumping Station andthenadvertise junk for sale. Received letter from Mrs. Walsh, 22 Evergreen Rd. , requesting the Board to take some action to better the drainage conditions in , the rear of her property. Placed on file for future action as funds permit. Received letter from Mr. George Timson, 272 West Street, requesting Board to take some action to intercept the drainage run off from West Street and Fremont Street which now overflows onto his property. Placed on file for future action as funds permit. Considered and discussed present method of placing sewer frontage assessments against corner lots and a proposed new method. Voted to abandon the old method and to place in effect the following new method: "Corner lots where a sewer assessment has been previously levied shall be assessed on the remaining , abutting street by a sum equal to the difference between the total frontage less 80 feet multiplied by the existing rate per foot. This regulation shall not apply to corner lots where the total area and frontage are not sufficient to subdivide the same into two or more lots in accordance with the applicable require- ments of the Zoning By-Law of the Town." 89 Voted following pole locations: 0 Pearl St.---Pole Z, moved 5' southerly Lowell St.--Pole PA moved 2' southeasterly Following Granite Curb Application received, approved, and placed on file: Roland Sawyer, Jr.------ 52 Salem Street Held conference with Lt. Col. (Ret.) Harold Davis, Director, Civil Defense, Town of Reading. Col. Davis gave a general resume' of the Civil Defense program and the accomplishments to date. He also discussed the role of the Public Works Dept. in the Civil Defense Program and explained in detail the accomplishments in this respect to date. The report was enlightening and satisfying. The Board extended their thanks to Col. Davis and their congratula- tions for the accomplishments to date. Voted to make certain changes in the salary limits for classifications recently submitted to the Personnel Board and instructed Superintendent to so inform Personnel Board. Board adjourned 10:00 P.M.
