HomeMy WebLinkAbout1950-12-19 Board of Public Works Minutes 85 Reading, Mass. , December 19, 1950 �- The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:00 P.M. . Chairman Calvin, Messrs . Donahue, Harrison, Hopkins and Walker were present. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Voted to petition the Personnel Board to approve several changes in existing classifications and to approve several changes in maximum salary limitations. Superintendent Welch reported at 8:00 P.M- Voted to hold two meetings of the Board - one on December 27, 1950, and one on December 28, 1950 Voted to instruct Chairman to report to general meeting of 1 all Board Chairman which is to be held January 2, 1956 that this Board favors a ten percent flat increase for all employees plus allowance for, any merit increases which the Board may later recuest. Considered 1951 Budget at length and in detail. Discussed generally the duties of the Department in the Civil'Def6nse Program. Signed Granite Curbing Betterment Assessment Commitment Sheets. Signed Granolithic Sidewalk Betterment Assessment Commitment Sheets. Signed listing sheets showing totalization of expenditure for the 1950 Chapter 90 Construction Project on Charles Street and for the 1950 Chapter 90 Maintenance Program on various streets. Following Granite Curbing aprlication received, approved, and placed on file: John Phinney 49 Chute Street ss Received letter from E. S. Arsenault, 1 Indiana Avenue, requesting permission to connect a drain from his cellar to the ' public storm drain in Indiana Avenue. Voted to approve the request subject to the standard pro- _ visions and further providing that the invert of the connection at his cellar be at least 12 inches higher than the top of the drain pipe running through the school yard. Voted to contract for weather forecasts for the period January 1, 1951 to December 31, 1951 with the company }mown as Weather Services, Inc. , for a fee of $156.00 and to authorize the Superintendent to execute the contract.
