HomeMy WebLinkAbout1950-12-11 Board of Public Works Minutes 83 Reading, Mass. , December 11, 1950 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M. Messrs. Donahue, Harrison, Walker and Superintendent Welch were present. Mr. Walker acted as chairman. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Mr. Edward Dube, 216 Woburn St. , conferred with Board relative to the drainage conditions in front of his property. Board will investigate. Temporarily adjourned to meet as Board of Survey at 7:45 P.M. Reconvened at 8:15 P.M. Received letter from Metropolitan District Commission acknowledging receipt by them of a petition from the Town of Reading for membership in the Metropolitan District Water Supply System. Considered bids received for the construction of a gravel packed well and the installation of .test wells. Voted to award the contract to the D. L. Mahar Co. of Cambridge, Mass. , who are the low bidders. Considered adopting rates for trucks hauling snow for the winter season of 1950-1951. Voted to establish rates as follows: 1-� and 2 yard bodies built up to at least 6 cu. yds. but not exceeding 8 cu. yds:-------$3.25/hour 3 to 5 yard bodies built up to at least 8 cu. yds. but not exceeding 10 cu. yds-----------$4.00/hour 3 to 5 yard bodies built up to at least 10 cu. yds. but not exceeding 12 cu. yds..---------$4.75/hour Larger bodies built up to ,exceed 12 cu. yds.------$5. 50/hour 84 Voted to hold a special meeting of the Board on Tuesday, December 19, 1950 at 7:00 P.M. Received invitation bids for sale of junk at Mill Street Pumping Station as follows : Max G. HorovitL' Co.--Stoneham--$1,280.00 Ralph P. Hall, Inc.--Stoneham--$1,240.00 Voted to advertise the junk for sale in the Lawrence, Reading, and Boston papers. Considered disposition of the Engineer's House at the Mill Street Pumping Station. Voted to request the Selectmen to introduce an Article in the 1951 Warrant asking permission to sell the house.
