Reading, Mass. , November 6, 1950
The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works open6d at
7:3G P.M.
Chairman Calvin, Messrs. Donahue, Hopkins, and Superintendent
Welch wereP resent.
Records of previous meeting read and approved.
Mr. Loren Pittindreigh of Whitman and Howard conferred with
the Board on the subject of new wells and left with the Board six
copies of contract and specifications for one gravel packed well in
the vicinity of the present "B"
Line.
Mr. John E. McKelligan, 11 Chestnut Rd. conferred with Board
relative to the condition of the stairway and banking in front of
his home. '
Board will investigate.
Received letter from Chronicle asking Board would they allow
public and press to attend Board Meetings.
Voted to allow public and press to attend meetings except
when, for personal reasons , it is necessary to hold executive sessions .
Received request from High School Athletic Director that
Department bleachers be transported to Stoneham for the Thanksgiving
Game.
Voted that due to cost involved, condition of bleachers and
insurance questions it is not deemed advisable to approve the request.
Received letter from C. J. Kray, 16 Dustin Rd. , that he be
considered for consulting engineering work.
Received letter from Daniel Shepardson, 3 Orchard Park Drive
requesting permission to construct a storm drain and basin in his
yard and connect same to the public storm drain in Summer Avenue.
Taken under advisement.

Voted to request Selectmen to assign a police officer to
the dump for two days to check home addresses of people using dump.
Received letter from School Committee stating that they
intend to ask for an appropriation for a new high school at the
March, 1951, Town Meeting and requesting that the Board of Public
Works prepare plans and estimates for the cost of street extensions,
sewer extensions , water main extensions , etc. , and include all such
items in the Board of Public Works Budget for 1951.
Voted to request the School Committee for more definite
information as to the location of the school so that this Depart-
ment can prepare an estimate of the cost of preparing the requested
plans.
Following Granolithic Sidewalk applications received approved
and placed on file:
Claude Higgins 32 Dudley Street
Voted to purchase a one year membership in the American
Road Builders Association at a cost of $7. 50.
Signed Bill of Sale for Walters F. M. Truck which was
turned in to the Sterling Motors Corp. against the purchase of a
new Sterling Truck.
Conferred with Finance Committee relative to several
matters of which the primary one was an explanation of the
detailed operation of the Road Machinery Fund and the Road
Machinery Operating Account.
Received letter from Selectmen referring to an attached
letter from the MDC containing questions relative to central
incinerators .
Voted to record as being in favor of central incinerators
providing they are operated by the Town and not by any govern-

mental agency such as the MDC.
Received letter from William Curran, 157 Nigh St. requesting
an extension of the sewer in Middlesex Avenue to his home.
Voted to hold hearing on the evening of November 20, 1950.
Considered prepared agreement to purchase land from Silas
Carroll northerly of Grove St. for a price of $500.00er acre
P , area
not to exceed 5 acres.
Voted to approve agreement and to contact Mr. Carroll for
signature.
Voted to hold next meeting of Board on Monday, Nov. 20, 1950.
