HomeMy WebLinkAbout1950-06-19 Board of Public Works Minutes 44 Reading, Mass. , June 19, 1950 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M. Chairman Calvin, Messrs. Donahue, Hopkins , Walker and Super- intendent Welch were present. Records of previous meeting read and approved as amended. Received letter from C. Logan Godfrey urging Board to buy compressor from his company (Perrin-Seamans) as he is a resident of Reading. Following Granolithic Sidewalk applications received, approved and placed on file: James C. Stevenson 105 King St. John W. Stanley 103 King St. Following Granite Curbing application received, approved and placed on file: John W. Stanley 103 King St. Voted to approve a general vacation period for all possible employees from July 15, 1950 to July 30, 1950. Signed House Connection Assessment Commitment Sheets . Hearing at 8:00 P.M. on proposed storm drain easement from south of Wescroft Road to north of Springvale Road through lands of McSheehy, Page, Gill, Nuts, Evans and Berry. Following persons present: Gordon Berry In favor Douglas Gill In favor Richard Evans In favor - except for proposed easement along the northerly line of his property George M. McSheehy In favor Kenneth Nute In favor , Voted to take storm drain easement as per the plan (Refer to Plan No.A110-144 showing the proposed location. 45 Conferred with Mr. Paul Howard and Mr. Lorrin Pittendreigh Irepresentatives of the consulting engineers Whitman and Howard at 8:3o P.M. Mr. Howard read a preliminary report cn investigation of the water system including many subdivisions such as, past history, new test well, various types of treatments tested, possible plant changes, possible temporary supplies, etc. An active discussion took place covering many phases of the water system. Mr. Howard and Mr. Pittendreigh answered many, ques- tions and told of several experiences with other plants. This lasted until 10:30 P.M. Voted to advertise for bids for a gravel packed well on Thursday, June 22, 1950 and to take bids on Monday, June 26, 1950. Received copy of letter from Insurance Committee to Mr. Harold Parker requesting him to furnish this Board with information on Insurance. Received letter from Mr. George Taber, 1000 Main St. complain- ing about the drainage through the culvert on Pearl St. at the easterly boundary of his property. Voted to purchase one Worthington 105-foot compressor from the Morrissey Brother Co. at the bid price of $2,069.10. Voted to purchase one GMC 2-bag cement mixer from the Hedge and Matheis Co. at the bid price of $1,950.60. Board adjourned at 11:00 P.M. Respectfully submitted: ' (Signed) Coleman J.
