HomeMy WebLinkAbout1950-06-12 Board of Public Works Minutes 41 Reading, Mass. , June 12, 1950 ' The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:40 P.M. Messrs. Donahue, Hopkins, Walker and Superintendent Welch were present. Mr. Walker acted as chairman. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Voted to resurface one tennis court at Birch Meadow. Following Granite Curbing application received, approved, and placed on file: Mabel Corindia 42 Dudley Street Following Granolithic Sidewalk applications received, approved and placed on file: Mabel Corindia 42 Dudley Street Frances Emery 31 Federal Street Voted not to abate any part of the April, 1950, water bill of Peter Orchanian at 239 Haven Street. Received letter from Finance Committee stating that they have approved the transfer of $927.00 from the Reserve Fund to the Dump Account and also approving a future transfer to cover the cost of installing a sanding body on the 1941 Dodge Chassis . Considered bids on 10-14 ton tandem roller. Voted to purchase a Model KT-25B Buffalo Springfield Tandem Roller from the Clyde Everett Equipment Co. , at the bid price of $5,4Go.00. Considered bids on a 5-ton Chain Drive Truck. ' Voted to reject all bids and to readvertise for bids on 5-ton Chain Drive and Conventional Drive Trucks. Sturges. Voted to hold next two meetings of Board on Monday, June 19, 1950 and Monday June 26, 1950. Voted to hold an informal hearing on the cost of constructing Shipkin Avenue from Summer Avenue southerly to the end of the present public way. Conferred with the Insurance Committee relative to the following matters. 1. Request that this Board be given more information about existing insurance as it affects this Department. 2. Reouest that no added insurance be placed unless approved by this Board first. 3. Request that resume' of insurance be made to see if some can be dropped or reduced. 4. Request investigation to see if existing machinery policy covers breakdowns in filter plant. 5. Request itemized breakdown of compensation cases of this Department. 6. Request investigation to see if machinery breakdown policy can be combined with other policies to see if a saving in cost can be affected.
