HomeMy WebLinkAbout1950-05-15 Board of Public Works Minutes 32 Reading, Mass. , May 15, 1950 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M. Chairman Calvin, Messrs . Donahue, Hopkins, Walker and Super- intendent Welch were present. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Voted permission to the Reading Committee for U. S. Treasury Bond Sales to erect sign on Common. Voted to send a resolution of condolence to Mrs. Thomas Fallon on the death of her husband Thomas Fallon, an employee of this Dept. Received letter from Veterans of Foreign Wars requesting truck and driver for Memorial Day. Voted to furnish truck and driver as recuested. ' Hearing at 8:00 P.M. on proposed sewer extension in Grand St. from Middlesex Ave. to opposite #40. Following persons present: Helen Ruggles Opposed F. L. Springford Opposed Richard Moore In favor Percy Moore Non Commital Adelbert Carter In favor James Howard In favor Gladys Pratt In favor Voted to make extension of sewer in Grand St. from Middlesex Avenue to opposite No. 40 (Sta. 0 + 00 to Ste. 3 + 50 - Plan #230) Hearing at 8:30 P.M. on proposed Storm Drain Easement from Curtis St. to Walnut St. through lands of Allen Hubbard and Gordon Hubbard and also from Walnut St. northwesterly through lands of Mary Warren and Allan Sturges. Warren In favor Sumner Teel In favor Allen Hubbard In favor Gordon Hubbard In favor 33 Voted to make takings of drain easements as described above. 1 Hearing at 9:00 P.M. on following pole locations: Winthrop Ave. East Side North of Harshorn Street Three new pole locAtions Poles 99/16 - 99/17 - 99/18 No one present. Voted pole locations as described above. Following Granollthic Sidewalk applications received, approved and placed on file. Alfred Nigro 24 Middlesex Avenue Voted permission to the American Legion Auxiliary to hold a block dance on Lowell St. between Woburn St. and Main St. on the evening of June 14, 1950. ' Voted to advertise for bids for one two-ton truck, one five- ton truck and one 10-14 ton roller and to take bids on the evening of May 22, 1950 and June 5, 1950. Attended joint meeting of all Town Boards. Discussion covered many items as follows: 1. Workmen's Compensation Payments 2. Possible Safety Program 3: Sick Leave For Town Employees 44 Possibility of combining some purchases 5. Possibility of physical examination for prospective employees. Discussed conditions at Town Dump at length. Voted to invite Board of Selectmen, Fire Chief and Chairman of Finance Committee to meet with Board at the Town Dump at 10:30 A.M. Sunday, May 21, 1950.
