Reading, Mass . , May 1e 1950
The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened ,
at 7:30 P.M.
Chairman Calvin, Messrs. Donahue, Hopkins, Walker, and
Superintendent Welch were present.
Records of the previous meeting were read and approved
as amended.
Received letter from Mr. Harold Putnam tendering his
resignation as a member of the Board of Public Works.
Voted to accept the resignation with regrets.
Voted to hold Board meeting on the next three successive
Mondays , May 8, 15, and 22, 1950.
Received notices of 1950 Chapter 90 Construction and
Chapter 90 Maintenance allotments from the State Department of
Public Works. The following Granolithic Sidewalk Applications
received, approved, and placed on file.

Voted to keep "Reading" sign on Common lighted.
Received letter from Daniel Shepardson, Orchard Park
Drive, requesting permission to connect a cellar drain- to the
public storm drain in Summer Avenue.
Voted to permit connection as requested with the usual
provisions .
Conferred with Mr. Sullivan, Mr. Murphy, and Mr. Keefe,
representatives of the Reading Soft Ball League, relative to the
installation of lights for night games at Birch Meadow Playground.
They will gather information relative to lights and costs, and
submit same to the Board for inclusion in the 1951 Budget.

Voted following pole locations :
High Street - South Side - Pole 41/11A - Abandoned
Bigh Street. - West Side - Pole 41/44 - Abandoned
Prospect St.- East Side - Pole 76/11A - Abandoned
Received letter from Francis Bulman, Architect, for the
St. Agnes Parochial School, requesting permission to connect drain
pipes and conductor pipes to the public storm drain which runs
through this property on the easterly side.
Voted permission subject to the usual provisions.
Received application for sewer extension in Hancock Street
from Robert Graham. Placed on file.
Considered bids for 1950 Clay Pipe requirements.
Voted to purchase pipe from Portland Stoneware Company.
Considered all applications for sewer extensions.
' Voted to install the following extensions in 1950:
Grand Street - Middlesex Avenue to No. 32 Grand Street
West Street - Woburn Street to No. 237 West Street
Sigsbee Avenue - Howard Street to Scotland Road
Scotland Road - Sigsbee Avenue to West Street
Vista Avenue - Sunnyside Avenue to Pratt Street
High Street - Dudley Street to Middlesex Avenue
John Street - Haven Street to No. 53 John Street
Also, if funds are available, sewer will be installed in
Scotland Road from Sigsbee Avenue to No. 35 Scotland Road.
Voted to paint flagpole on Common.
