Reading, Mass., April 24, 1950
' The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at
7:30 P.M.
Chairman Calvin, Messrs. Donahue, Hopkins, Walker and Super-
intendent Welch were present.
Records of two previous meetings read and approved.
Signed Orders of Taking as follows:
Pilgrim Road 1950 Betterment Acceptance
Pine Ridge Rd. 1950 Betterment Acceptance
Intervale Terrace 1950 Betterment Acceptance
Parkman Road 1950 Betterment Acceptance
Winslow Road 1950 Betterment Acceptance
Overlook Road 1950 Betterment Acceptance
Considered bids for three 3/4 Ton Pick-Up Trucks.
Voted to buy three 3/4 Ton 8 cylinder Ford Pick-Up Trucks
1 from Carleton and Gray.-
Mr. Eccleston of Condor Road in the rear of 218 Pearl St.
conferred with Board relative to the installation of a water service
to his home.
Mr. Eccleston stated he would seek legal advice.
Following Granolithic sidewalk applications received, approved
and placed on file:

' Received petition from Mrs. Vivian Landers, 53 John Street
requesting that the sewer be extended in John St. to service her
property.

Received request from Reading Soft Ball League to install
lights at the Birch Meadow Soft Ball Field.
Voted to invite league officials to meet with Board on the
evening of May 8, 1950 at 9:00 P.M.
Following persons conferred with Board relative to the drain-
age conditions in the rear of the houses on the north side of
Pinevale Road:
Mr. A. C. Knapp Mr. D. H. Stevens
Mr. J. G. Smith Mr. D. V. Kelley
Mrs. J. G. Smith
Board agreed to furnish 60 to 70 feet of 12-inch pipe if Mr.
Dana Perkins will excavate the part of the ditch filled in by him
and lay the pipe therein.
Received report that Whitman and Howard will file a report j
in four or five weeks . 1
Received letter fron Mr. Ernest Sias requesting permission
to connect a collecting drain circling his house at 32 Vale Road
to the Dublic storm drain in Woodward Avenue.
Voted to approve request providing a catch basin with sump
hole is built . on the line between his house and the existing Town
manhole in Woodward Avenue.
Conferred with Selectmen relative to the following:
1. Lighted sign on Common
2. Amount for Hydrant Rentals
3• Fires at Dump
4. Traffic Standard in Square opposite Pleasant St. ,
Voted to write Finance Committee requesting transfer from
Reserve Fund for an extra caretaker at the Town Dump. j
Voted to abate the sum of $ 12.06 on the October 1949 water �i■
bill of Carl Erlandson, 58 Colburn Road.

Voted not to make any abatement on the April 1950 water bill
' of Neil MacLean, 150 Village Street.
Voted to hold next meeting of Board on May 1, 1950.
Board adjourned 11:45 P.M.
