HomeMy WebLinkAbout1928-02-20 Finance Committee Minutes . Meeting February 13, 1928. The meeting was called to order at 800 P. M. by Chip. Ruggles. At the request of the committee the Board of Public Works again appeared on the budget for 1928. Ch. Ruggles stated that on account of increasing expenditures in other departments it seemed necessary to curtail particularly on drainage and highway work. Chm. Owen stated that the drainage system development could be postponed but felt that so much of it as was necessary to be done before the construction of Woburn Street should be financed. this year. He stated that $10,000 would be required for this work and that also the highway appropriation could be reduced $10,000 if the Finance Committee so required. { Members of the Board of Public Works present were Chas. Owen, �r Davis, Brown, Higgins, and Supt . Collins. The members of the Planning Board appeared and presented a plan for the widening of Main Street in Reading Square which has been under condideration of that Board for the past two or three years. Members of the Planning Board present were,Chm. Burnham, Xrs. Leutchman, Mr. Parker, Mr. Putnam. Matters pertaining to the Highway Dept. budget were discussed at considerable length. , It was voted to recommend .that $9,000 be appropriated for repairs to the Mineral Street Bridge rather than to enter into the project of building a new bridge. The meeting adjourned at 10:00 P.M. Members present at this meeting: Cbm. Ruggles, Mount, Morrison, Briggs, Devaney, Porch, Raley, Moyer, Scott, Killam, Bent. L. G. Bent Clerk. Mr. Rolland Perry appeared for Article 30. Mr. Weeks spoke on Article 24 and underpass at railroad depot and urged that the Finance Committee recommend same. Mr. M. F. Charles appeared in opposition to Article 16 widenigg Reading Square. General discussion followed. It was voted to meet February 24th and discuss further report ( of Special Committee on school budget. Members present at this meeting: Chm.
