HomeMy WebLinkAbout1929-02-11 Finance Committee Minutes Meeting February 4, 1929. The meeting was called to order at 8.15 P.M. The Board of Assessors having been requested to appear, werg present as follows: Chairman Horrocks, Clark and Richardson. Mr. Horrocks spoke of the need of expending `500.00 for the Block System Survey covering terri- tory between Main Street and Grove Street and Chapman Park to Grove Street. Fie also presented the matter cf increased salaries for clerks in the Assessors office . Mr. prank Strout appeared at the invitation of the Committee on the q matter of the stand pipe, called for in the budget of the Mater Department, and on other matters connected with the water system. He stated that in- creased storage capacity was necessary, especially for better fire pro- tection. He further stated in his opinion there was little to be feared on account of lack of supply, tie, matter of storage being most important. Mr.. Horrocks having made certain statements regarding clerical salaries not borne out b7 the facts, it was suggested that the Board be asked to appear at the meeting February 11th. Mount, Connelly, Devaney, Fairchild, Haley, Porch, Scott, ScreEtser. Clerk. Meeting February 11 , 1929. ® A public meeting was called to order by the Chairman at 8.00 P.M. Mr. Roland Perry was heard on an Article for County Aid tc ;.,;r`_^ il.tare and asked for appropriation of x100.00. :6r. J. `"'. Sias appeared for an article calling for a drain from the junction of Salem and ?arndcn Streets to a brood running southerly beyond property of Charles Haugood. The Chairman suggested that the article be ta'cen to the Board of Public Torks for report later. Sergt. Slack ar" Patrolman hall appeared for the article asking for Increased pay for the Police Department. Salariss asked for as follows: Chief .TBO0; Sergt. ' 2400 .atrola.an Maximum x'2200, T7inin.ur. ',2000. The Board of Public "'orks again appeared and various matters connected with the deFartments under its charge were discussed, more especially the highways, storm drains, Park Department, and side walks and curbing. Regarding the matter of a new stand pipe Mr. Haley suggested trw`. the matter be gone into more thcroughly. The matter of town dumps was spoken of and the Bcr_:,l stated that if the care of the dumps was given to the hoard of Public I^;orks, it would rbe necessary to purchase a bull-dozer for t,e -work. It .rac requested that the cost of such apparatus be ascertained and report later. The Board of Assessors appeared and requested that the amount of their appropriation for clerical hire be reduced from x;3120 to 72720 to allow an j increase of 15.00 per week for each clerk. The Municipal Light Roard appoared, Chairman H. H. Johnson with Supt. Sias . The only item in theibudget of this Department affecting the tax levy was the appropriation for street lighting which was w'13,000 a decrease of 1500 over last vearrs appropriation.
