It having been found that not enough business was ready to be presented on January 7th, the first meeting was postponed to this date. The meeting was called to order at 8.10 o' clock by Chairman ` Mount. The Board of Public "Forks was heard on its budget for 1929, `.+embers of the Board present Chairman Harry N. Brown, Messrs . Davis, Hartshorne, Higgins and Supt. Collins . The Board presented each item in detail and Where increases were asked for, explained the reason for such contemplated expenditures. There was considerable discussion especially on the matter of storm water drainage, park department expenses and water department, especially the item in the water department budget calling for an expenditure of 40,000 to erect a new standpipe. After the Board of Public Works had been dismissed; general discussion was held, although a quorum was not present . Members present at this meeting: Chm. Mount, Ellison, Fairchild, Haley, and Sweetser. Clerk. Meeting January 21, 1929. The meeting was called to order at 8.10 by the Chairman. The Board of Cemetery Trustees were first heard, represented by Mr. Philip H. Tirrell, Chairman and Mr. Clarence C. "bite, Secretary. The Board presented a budget for Laurel Hill Cemetery, also Forest Glenn Cemetery{ asking for $9637 .00 for Laurel Hill Cemetery, and re- questing that "51500.00 be appropriated from the Cemetery Reserve Fund ( sale of lots and graves) for permanent development. The estimate for Forest Glenn Cemetery was "750.00 for care and $2250.00 for building wall and capping. The Library Trustees were next heard, being represented by Chair- man Arthur N. Mansfield, Judge Jessie 'P. Morton and Harry. J. Barclay. The budget was as follows: A3000.00 for Maintenance 4500.00 for Salaries The School Committee presented their budget for 1929 and was represented by Mr. Carl Spencer and Mrs. Josephine L. Fowler. The total appropriations asked for by the School Committee were as follows: 40 Salaries $174,000.00 Maintenance 58,450.00 Agricultural Salaries 2,800.00 7aintenance 300.00 Inductrial Tuition 500.00 Total Appropriations „2=5_0.0-0 Mr. Spencer explained at some length the reason for increases in several of the amounts in the budget and expressed the hope that the Finance Committee would find it possible to grant the amounts asked for January 21, 1929 Cont. in order that the School Department might be properly financed. He dwelt particularly on the need of repairs to the several build- ings. The remainder ofthe evening was devoted to general discussion although no quorum was present. Members present: Chm. Mount, Connelly, Haley, Morrison, Scott, Sweetser. J Clerk. . Meeting January 28, 1929. The meeting was called to order at 8.10 by the Chairman. Chairman Horrocks of the Board of Assessors presented the budget of the Assessors asking for an increase in the clerical appropriation of $920 over the amount expended in 1928, total ^ 6820. The other amounts asked for were the same as in 1928. He dwelt at some - length upon the increased work of the office due to different methods of keeping the records and the coming excise tax. He also spoke in explanation of the .block system survey. The budget of the Board of Health was presented by the clerk, the amounts as'sed for being the same as in 1928 - ""6100.00. The Board of wealth recommended that the town dump on John Street be taken care of by. the Board of nublic �'orks . I£ the recommendation does not meet with the approval of the Committee, the: Board of Health ask for 1500.00 additional expenses. The budget of the Collector of Taxes was presented by the clerk, the clerical and maintenance expenses being the same as in 1928, x$1200, and salary 12600.00 instead of ?t2000.00. ' The Board. of Selectmen presented the budgets of t'ze General Govern- ment and the. Departments coming under its jurisdiction, calling for certain increases such as: Additional &p.3ropriation for Fire Station Maintenance on account of needed repairs; Po11ce . Department salaries account for one more patrolman; Fire Department salt.,ies account for increase of . 200 per year for each man; ?;500 Tree '"arden! s expenses on account of purchase _ of auto truck; 4k150 for salaries of. Inspector of "'ares; p100 for salary of Sealer of @'eights & Measures; 150 for expenses of Sealer of ?'eights g Measures; ' 200 , for salary of Visitor; and other changes as noted in the schedule filed with this report. The hour being late no further discussion was held and the meeting adjourned at 10.15 P.M. Members present: Chm Mount, Devaney, Fairchild, Killam, Porch, Scott, 9weetse r. ' Clerk. J
