HomeMy WebLinkAbout1927-02-08 Finance Committee Minutes i Meeting February 1, 1927. The meeting was called to order at 8;05 P.M. Mr. J. Warren Killam, Jr. was welcomed as a new member of the committee, having been appointed to fill the unexpired term of Mr. James P. Carleton, resigned. Mr. D: W: Creelman of the State Tax Office was present on the invitation of the Chairman and was called upon to speak regarding compensation of the Collector of Taxes and of the duties of the Collector. The Budget of the Assessor 's Department was presented by the Chairman, Mr. Horrocks. No other �Departments being represented, a general dis- cussion was held on various matters concerning the finances of the Town. The Clerk was instructed to bring information regarding the salaries paid the clerks in the various offices and the work required of them.. It was voted that the Public Meeting of the Committee be held on Tuesday evening, February 15, 1927. Meeting adjourned at 9:45 P.M. Members present at this meeting: Chairman, Otis B. Scott, Mrs. Mollie A. Sweetser, and J. Warren Killam. L. G. Bent Clerk. C Meeting February 8, 1927. i The meeting was called to order at 8:10 P.M. A request was received from Mr. Joseph D. Knight, Chair- man of School House Building Commission for a hearing before the Finance Committee on Friday evening, February 11. It was voted to meet on that date. The Board of Selectmen appeared '-,ofore the Committee for the second time with revised estimate,a, especially as to the Fire Department salaries. Various matters underthe jurisdiction of the Selectmen - were discussed, including the matter of larger fire apparatus WOW on the West Side. � 1 Meeting, Feb. S, 1927, cont. The Municipal Light Board appeared, represented by Chnirman H. R. Johnson and Superintendent Sias . They pre- sented a budget of the Municipal Light Department for 1927. Mr. Sias was asked and answered several questions . pertaining to that Department. The meeting adjourned at 9:25 P.M. Members present at this meeting: Otis Be Ruggles, Ch. , James W. Clerk. Meeting, February 11, 1927. The meeting was called at the request of the School House Building Commission. Chairman, Joseph D. Knight, Messrs, H. R. Johnson, Albert R. Shepardson, Harold A. Carnes, and Mal- colm C. Davis were present representing the Commission. Mr. Knight stated that of the appropriation for Junior High School had been expended 49,500 for grading which was not provided for in the appropriation. but which in the judgment of the commission was properly expended. Ther further stated that °27,000 in s,9 ''ition would be needed to finisH the work; not including the proposed athletic field. The commission asked for an appropriation of "36,500 to replace the 9,500 expended from the Building appropriation and to provide •. 27,000 for further wor)T. The matter of draining and grading the Athletic field was presented. A plan was shown which Mr. Johnson ex- plained in detail. - It was stated that this work could be done at this time at a much less outlay. Mr. Shepardson presented the matter of equipment for the new building, asking that about 410,000 in addition to the 420,000, set aside for this purpose, would be needed to equip the building for present needs. i After the Commission had left, a general discussion was held of several matters affecting the finances of the Town, but no votes were taken.
