ifeeting was called to order at 8.10 o 'clock;other than the
msmbers of the committee there were eight citizens present,four
women and four men. The Chairman first took up the special arti-
cles in the warrant calling for appropriations.Abtiele 24,Child
Welfare work was presented by Mrs.Fowler who spoke of the work
and needs of the pre-sehool clinic. Article 25 was sponsored by
Mr.Rolland Perry,Director,who told of what the department under
his oharge.aimed to do and the need of a slightly larger appropriation.
Article 29,relating tc moving the band-stand was advocated by
Mr.Willard F.Adden of the Planning Board,also was favored by Mr.
Chas.S. Hasty. Senator Chas.P.Howard spoke on Article 26,an article
calling for an appropriation of $5000.00 for the establishing of
building lines.Mr.Sidebottom also spoke in favor of the article.
It was also urged by Mr.Hasty. Article 31 relating to ash collection
was next considered and was argued for by Mr.Hasty who also spoke
on Article 32 relating, to the adoption of a limited form of town

Meeting,Feb.19,1924.
Meeting was called to order at UO o'clock. Chairman began with
budget of 1924.Voted to recommend as estimated,�oderator' a Salary,
Selectmen's Clerical, Selectmen's Expenses,Accountant ' s Salary,
treasurer's Salary,Treasurer' s Expenses,Collector's Salary, Collector's
Expenses,Collector' s Clerical. The Selectmen having appeared, Chairman
Springford presented Article 18,relating to traffic beacons. The
matter of increased pay for Police and Fire Departments was urged
by Ch.Springford and the other members of his board,Idr.Johnson and
^r.Knight.They strongly recommend the raises and quoted the rates of
pay for similar service in surrounding places. Article 13 was
presented by CA.Springford and such information as was at hand re-
garding the proposed Police Station was given and questions asked
and answered.Mr Knight requested that $500.00 be added to the amount
asked for in the estimate for Fire Dept.I,4aintenanee in order to
meet the expense of fitting out car presented by Mrs.Chester W.Brown
as a piece of auxiliary apparatus.Ch.Sprinoford spoke on Article 12
and urged that the sum asked for be recommended. Consideration of
the budget was again taken up and it was moved by Mr.Farnum that the
salaries of the Assessors be same as last year; it was not voted;
On motion of Mr.Devaney it was voted that the matter be laid upon the
table;it was voted that the matter of Assessor's Expenses be laid on
the table and that the assessors be asked for an itemized statement.
It was voted to lay the matter of Assessor' s Clerical Expense on the
0410 table. It was voted to recommend as estimated,Block System Survey,
Town Counsel's Salary and Expenses.It was voted to recommend $350.00
for Town Clerk' s Salary and -0500.00 for Town Clerk' s Expenses.

salaries for police department be recommended as requested by the

On motion of Mr.Devaney it was voted. that the vote of
Department Salaries be reconsidered and it wan voted that the recom-
mendation of the Selectmen be adopted as the recommendation of the

ommend x$20,000.00 for High Street Drain;5$5,000.00 to be raised in the
tax levy of 1924 and to issue notes or bods for the balance,'$5,000.00
each payable in one,two and three years. t was voted to recommend the
amounts estimated for Charities and Aid and for Soldiers' Benefits.
On motion of Mr.Currell it was voted to ,increase the Library 050-Main-
tenance estimate to $2950.00 in order to provide an additional 4$250.00
for needed repairs and it was voted to recommend the larger amount.
The sum of $2250.00 was recommended for Public Library Salaries,
2350.00 for Park Department,v$8300.00 for Cemetery Maintenance,
600op00 for Cemetery land purchase and improvement as provided in
Article 22. 300.00 for Memorial Day and 4$500.00 for Care of Soldiers '
and Sailors ' Graves. It was voted to recommend that y$15,000.00 be
appropriated from E. & D. Account for the payment of Maturing Debt.
It was voted to recommend $3500.00 for the Reserve Fund to be
appropriated from E. & D. Accmmt. It was voted to recommend that
$438.56 be appropriated from E. & D. Account and 52014.54 from the
tax levy to balance overdrafts of 1923 as listed in Article 5.
It was voted to recommend 4$186.50 for Art.12,Firemens ' Reimburse-
ment; 4$693.50 for Traffic Beaeons,Art.14;$300.00 Child welfare Work,
Art 24;1200.00 Agricultural Bureau Work,Art.25;Q$2500.00 building Lines
Art.26; 250.00 Fire Alarm Box,Art.30. It was voted not to recommend
Art.27 Atheletic Field nor Art.29,1Soving Band Stand. -
