HomeMy WebLinkAbout1924-01-08 Finance Committee Minutes Finance Committee Meeting,Jan.8,1924 Meeting was called to order by the chairman at 8 o'clock. Mr.H.M.Donegan was first heard on the budget of the Moth Department and also on the Tree Warden Department. The Trustees of the Public Library,represented by Mr.A.N.Mansfield,were next heard on the needs of the library for the year. Mr.R.S.Keneely of the. board was also presen The Trustees of the Cemetery were then heard,Mr.Galen A.Parker,Ch. members prenent,Messrs.Tirrell.Xinsley,Edgerly,Twombly,Eels and Supt. Goodwin. The aims and needs of the Cemetery Dept.were presented and also a motion was read relating to the purchase of a small parcel of land with building adjoining the cemetery,a part of the Clapp property. The Trustees also presented the matter of acquiring land for a new cemetery and stated that they had purchased and held for the Town about nine acres of land on the westerly side of Pearl St.near Forest St. The Town Accountant asked for authority to transfer to the follow- ing accounts a sum not exceeding $700.00 from the Reserve Fund; . Treasurers Expenses, Collector's Expenses,Mise.Expenses,Central Fire Ste. Police Dept.Maint.,Fire Dept.Maint.School Dept.Gen'l.Maint, and to transfer the balance of Reserve Fund to School Dept.Gen'l.Maint. and it was so voted.Meeting adjourned at 10 o'clock,voting to meet Jan.15tt . Meeting Jan.15,1924 Meeting was called to order by Chairman at 8.10 o'clock. - The Board of Public Works was first heard,Chainman Geo.H.Clough pre- senting the Highway,Water,Sewer and Parkk Departments and also explain- ing at some length the urgent need of drainage and particularly the urgent necessity of a drain being constructed on High Street. Members of the Board present,ChairW^W-CI-"7-h,Owen ,White and Sunt. Collins. The Board of Selectmen appeared fob the Police and Fire Dep- artmentspresenting budgets calling for increase in pay and other added outlays. Selectmen present.Chairman Springford,Johnson,Knight. Chief Cullinane of the Police and Chief Ordway of the Fire Department:: - re present. The Board of Health budget was presented by Dx .E.M.Halligan, Chairmen of the Board. The Board of Assessors were next heard, Chairman Clark presenting the needs and problems of that department with a budget calling for higher salaries for the Assessors and larger appro- priations for other expenses.
