HomeMy WebLinkAbout1950-04-03 Board of Public Works Minutes 20 Reading, Mass. , April 3, 1950 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M. Chairman Calvin, Messrs. Donahue, Hopkins , Putnam, Walker and Superintendent Welch were present. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Mr. Raymond Muise, representative of the Right-of-Ways Divi- sion of the State Department of Public Works conferred with Board relative to proposed service road for Carl Englund off South Street and proposed service road for Stanley Brown and Adolph Larsen off Main Street. Voted to request State Highway Department to make takings forty feet wide and establish lines and grades in each case. Considered proposed Board of Survey rules and regulations for rights-of-way. Taken under advisement. Conferred with Mr. James Putnam relative to a right-of-way through lands of Mansfield at 201 Woburn Street. Taken under advisement. Conferred with Mr. Roberts relative to proposed right-of-way off Franklin Street between Nos. 480 and 482 through land of Manuel to service two lots in the rear of lands of Manuel and Milner owned one each by Roberts and Halfyard. Mr. Roberts was also representing Mr. Halfyard. Mr. Halfyard sent a letter about the same matter. Taken under advisement. Received application requesting extension of sewer in John St. from Haven St. northerly approximately 100 feet. Placed on file. 21 Received application from several abuttors on Boyce Street 1 requesting that Boyce Street from Pratt Street to Summer Avenue be accepted as a public way. Placed on file. Following Granolithic Sidewalk applications received, approved, and placed on file: Harry Gillis Mt. Vernon Street Otis Symonds 61 Vine Street Following Granite Curbing applications received, approved, and placed on file: Otis Symonds 68 Vine Street Harry Gillis 57 Mt. Vernon Street Robert Henderson 33 Temple Street Voted to advertise for and take bids on three standard pick-up trucks on April 17, 1950. ' Received letter from Town Counsel containing opinion relative to rights-of-way for lot subdivisions. Opinion states that where a right-of-way is laid out for a subdivision of a lot into two or more lots it is necessary to file a plan with the Board of Survey prepared according to the existing Board of Survey Rules and Regula- tions . Received letter from Mr. Philip Althoff, Director of Athletics requesting baseball dates at Washington Street Park for High School Baseball Team. Referred to Superintendent. Considered application of William J. McGee requesting exten- sion of water main in Woodland Road from John Carver Road to Lot 38. Voted to accept application and install main at usual fee. Voted to hold hearing in future for a change of grade in Woodland Road. 22 Received petition from Mr. Ralph Baker of 15 Winslow Road and Mr. Frank Baker, 12 Winslow Road requesting permission for each tolay a drain from each cellar to the storm drain manhole in Winslow Road for the purpose of draining both cellars. Voted to grant permission subject to the Departmental rules and providing they both sign "Release from Damages" in favor of the Town. Voted following pole locations: Walnut St. Poles 96/45 to 96/49 inclusive abandoned Main St. Pole 54/110A abandoned Received petition from several abuttors on Shipkin Avenue - requesting Board to hold an informal hearing relative to the accept- ance of Shipkin .Avenue as a public way. Voted to hold hearing as requested after necessary informa- tion is accumulated. Voted to instruct Architect Watts to bring plans for garage up-to-date so that bids can be taken.
