HomeMy WebLinkAbout1950-02-27 Board of Public Works Minutes i5 Reading, Mass. , February 27, 1950 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M. Chairman Calvin, Messrs . Donahue, Walker, and Superintendent Welch were present. Records of Meeting of February 13, 1950, and February 20, 1950 were read and approved. Superintendent Welch reported an incident at Garage on Wednesday, February 22, 1950, involving Superintendent Welch and Dominic Zanni. Because of personal, verbal abuse, Superintendent Welch had the police remove Zanni from Garage. Superintendent Welch suggested that no equipment be hired from Zanni. Voted to leave matter entirely to Superintendent Welch. Received letter from Selectmen relative to two matters as follows: A. Enclosing a bill for electricity used for lighting sign on the Common. B. Stating that the Hydrant Rental Fee for 1950 is to be $5,000 as in 1949. Voted to write Selectmen requesting a conference with them on Monday Evening, March 13, 1950. Messrs. Frank Knowlton and William McGee conferred with the Board relative to a water main extension in Woodland Road - (Refer to Plan A-6-24, Lot 38.) Board will investigate. Hearing at 8:00 P.M. on proposed acceptance, as a public l way, of Pilgrim Road from Lowell Street easterly approximately 400 feet - (Refer to Plan No. A-13-84) The following persons were present: Frank P . Congdon In favor Norman Rollins In favor John S. Todson In favor 16 Alvin Seldon In favor Guy Rossi In favor Royal Jaques In favor Voted to recommend acceptance to Town. Hearing at 8:30 P.M. on proposed acceptance, as a public way, of a portion of Intervale Terrace, from Station 5 + 88.00 to Station 10 + 80.0 (Refer to Plan No. A-12-86) The following persons were present: John Howarth In favor Louis Garono In favor Margaret Egan In favor Voted to recommend acceptance to Town. Received letter from the Town Counsel to the effect that, in cases where sewers abut only a portion of a lot, the sewer fron- tage assessments should be placed only against that part of the lot which receives particular benefit from the sewer. ' Voted to abate the sum of $240.00 on the 1949 sewer frontage assessment of Carl Anderson, 362 Summer Avenue. Received letter from Finance Committee listing approved budget totals for 1950. Conferred with Finance Committee relative to 1950 Budget. Voted to hold next Board Meeting on Monday, March 13, 1950. Signed following plans: Board of Public Works Acceptance Plan ----- Pilgrim Road. Signed report to the Town recommending the acceptance, as a Public Way, of a portion of Pilgrim Road - a copy of which is attached hereto, and herewith becomes a part of these records.
