The meeting was called to order at 8.10 P.M. by the Chairman.
The records of the last meeting were readd and approved.
The Chairman reported on the joint meeting held December 4th which
was attended by representatives of the various Boards invited with the
exception of the Public Welfare and the Board of Health.
The following requests were received in writing for transfers from
the Reserve Fund:
Board of Health, C are Contagious Diseases $100.00
Public Works, Water Department 400.00
Public Works, Snow & Ice Acct. 550.00
School Dept. Gen. Salaries Acct. r 190.09
Public Welfare Motherst Aid Acct. 750.00
On motion of Mr. Sturges seconded by Mr. Noyes it was voted to
authorize the Town Accountant to transfer $100.00 from the Reserve Fund
to Contagious Diseases Account.
On motion of Mr. Trevor seconded by Mr. Connelly it was voted to
transfer $190.09 to School Salaries Account.
On motion of Mr. Stures seconded by Mr. Noyes it was voted to
authorize the transfer of 1400.00 to Water Department Maintenance Account
with the understanding that this amount be appropriated from Water Reserve
in 1937 to offset the above transfer.
On Motion of Mr. Connelly seconded. by Mr. Sturges it was voted to
authorize the transfer of $581.99 to the Motherzt Aid Account, this being
q%w the balance of the Reserve Fund.
a Under the rules of procedure the following matters were presented:
A letter from the Board of Assessors' giving its estimate for 1937
Beal Estate valuation $15,750,000, Personal Estate $795000 making a
total of $16,545,000. They also furnished a statementfs of abatements
giving both amounts and valuation for the years 1934 to 1936, inc.
From the Tax Collector a statement of tax collections showing the
percentage of uncollected taxes as of December 31st of the years 1931 to
1936 inclusive.
A letter from the Mechanics Savings Bank and Reading Co-operative
Bank regarding conditions of payments on mortgages and interest and con-
ditions likely to prevail in 1937•
A letter of the same tenor from the First National Bank of Reading.
A letter from the Public Welfare Department with an estimate of the
needs for 1937•
A letter from the Town Accountant regarding probable income and
certain fixed expenses.
A letter was read from the Building Inspector giving the estimated
value of new buildings for which permits had been issued in 1936 up to
December 1st.
``" There was a general discussion regarding the above information. No
votes were taken.
Members present: Roberts, Folsom, Merrill, Trevor, Wellman, Ellison,
Davis, Connelly, Sturges, Noyes, Goldsmith.
