Chairman Barclay of the Library Trustees appeared regarding the Library Budget Public Welfare Board - Chairman, Leman, Mrs, Rooney, Mr. Scholtz (� and Mr. Harnden, Supt. , appeared regarding the 1935 budgets which was dilcussed, and answered a number of questions relative to the Public Welfare aid. �: The School Committee, Chairman Coolidge, Holcomb, Tanner, Wakeling, and Supt. Pierce appeared. Mr. Coolidge presented the question of z � partial restoration of salaries. Mr. Pierce supplemented Mr. Coolidge's remarks by stating his own experiences in obtaining teachers qualified to teach in Reading under the handicap of a lower salary scale than obtained elsewhere. He read a letter from Boston .University Teachers Placement Bureaup and referred to other letters received to prove that there was no surplus of good teachers. He also presented comparative figures from a group of twenty towns and cities in this vicinity, or about the same population group as Reading.He also presented aigures representing a smaller group which showed that Reading was below the average. Mr. Coolidge answered questions regarding the Maintenance budget. The Board of Health budget was first taken up. The Inspector of Plumbing salary which was left open from the last meeting was further dig- cussed. It was VOTED - to recommend payment of three months at the rate of $761.00 and nine months at the rate of $500.00, total $565.25. f ' The following recommendations were voted: Selectmen' s Expenses $800.00 Election & Registration Exp. 675.00 Registrars' Salaries _',2$7050 f= Miscellaneous Expenses 21500.00 Municipal Building Exp. 2,500.00 Care Fire Stations 850.00 Police Station Maintenance 1,100.00 Police Dept.
