Finance Committee Meeting February 6, 1935.
The meeting was called to order by the Chairman at 7.50 ofelock.
The records of the last meeting were read and approved, after notation
that the School Department sub-committee report was laid upon the table.
The Board of Selectmen, Chairman Leman, Killam, and Morton, appeared
and the several budgets under their jurisdiction were gone over and
certain suggestions and explanations were made regarding the estimates
for 1935.
The Planning Board was next heard, Chairman Watts, Parker, Haines,
and Daniel. Mr. Watts explained in some length the need of an additions
appropriation for Planning Board expenses this year to take care of
- necessary engineering advice in connection with matters affecting the
Town. He felt that if this advice was not obtained the Town would be
placed at a disadvantage should contemplated Public Works be carried out*
The Board of Health budget was presented by the Clerk as the
Chairman was unable to be present.
The budget of the Town Treasurer was presented. It was voted not
to recommend the item of $900 for clerical assistance. The Clerk was
instructed to notify the Treasurer in case he wished to appear again
before the Committee.
Chairman Connelly of the sub-committee on Public Works reported
that that Board had agreed to separate items for equipment and place
the same in the warrant as special articles.
Mr. Sturges spoke of the street construction projects shown on
Page 16 to be carried on under the provisions of Chapter 90. It was
voted not to recommend construction on Main Street, West Street and Lowell
Street.
Chairman Scott of the sub-committee on Municipal Light spoke briefly
concerning the Municipal Light Department budget.

The Clerk was intrusted to obtain from the Welfare Board its budget
for 1935 to present at the meeting February 13th.
- It was voted that the Chairman appoint a committee to prepare informs,
tion regarding the financial condition of the Town, the same to be publish
from time to time in the Reading Chronicle. Messrs. Dickie, Sturges and
Roberts were appointed to this committee.
