HomeMy WebLinkAbout1953-12-21 Board of Public Works Minutes December 21, 1953 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M. Messrs. Hopkins, Johnson, Kilgore, and Superintendent Welch were present. Mr. Hopkins acted as chairman. Hearing at 8:00 P.M. on the acceptance as a public way of a portion of Libby Avenue between G. Street and H Street. Following persons present. - George Rogers - Opposed because of amount of estimated assessment. Voted not to recommend acceptance of the above described street to the Town. Temporarily adjourned at 8:15 P.M. to meet as Board of Survey. Reconvened at 8:45 P.M. Voted not to place a sewer betterment assessment against the property of Marion Saylor, 284 Summer Avenue because the sewer construc- tion in Nichols Road abutting her property is not low enough to provide full service to her house. Received application for extension of sewer in Linden Street to serve No. 68. Placed on file pending availability of funds. Received letter from Charles W. Howard requesting that Gleason Road be accepted as a public way. Placed on file pending hearing on February 1, 1954. Following persons conferred with Board relative to surface water conditions on Batchelder Road at Haverhill Street. Mary Scavangelli - 25 Batchelder Road Pat. Torre, - 31 it J. Atkinson 666 Haverhill Street Voted to place filling on Haverhill Street at the intersection of Batchelder Road. Received letter from Board of Public Works of the Town of Wakefield granting permission to the Town of Reading to install a water service to a house on Srook Street for the Clifton Construction Company. Voted to close this Department at noon on Thursday, December 24, 1953 providing the weather is good. Considered taking by eminent domain land for slope easements on Oakland Road and Parkview Road through lands of Stuart F. and Ednamay K. Richards. Takings are necessary due to the construction of Oakland Road and Parkview Road as access roads to the New High School. ' Voted to take by eminent domain the lands described in the Order of Taking which is attached hereto and herewith becomes a part of these records. Signed Plans showing in detail the areas taken by eminent domain. Signed Orders of Taking describing in detail the areas taken by . eminent domain. Signed commitment sheets listing 1953 betterment assessments for sidewalk construction, curbing installation, street construction, sewer construction and 'sewer house connection construction. -Discussed, in general, departmental budget and personnel problems.
