HomeMy WebLinkAbout1953-11-30 Board of Public Works Minutes November 30, 1953 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M. Chairman Walker, Messrs. Hopkins, Johnson, Kilgore and Super- intendent Welch were present. Following Granite Curb Application received, approved and placed f ✓ on file: Jennie Hichcli £e Creaser - 4 Highland Street C 3 g Received letter f rom Mrs. Gordon Frey, 26 Wakefield Street request- ing permission to erect a birds Xmas Tree on the Village Green. Permission granted. Received petition from several abuttors on Grand Street requesting that a sewer be installed in Grand Street to service the properties between Lowell Street and Middlesex Avenue. Placed on file pending availability of funds. Voted following pole locations: Charles Street - East Side - Pole 13/34 moved 44 Feet Southerly Superintendent reported that land taking from Saunders off Willow Street for Sewer Pumping Station is completed. Conferred with 26 employees in Room 2 for a general informal discussion of salaries and classifications. Discussion was broad and varied but two basic matters seemed predominant. There were: A. Schedule should be broadened by raising maximums so that there would be financial incentive for an employee to better himself. B. All salaries are too low and a flat raise increase should be incoporated into the raised maximums. Conferred with 5 persons living on Lothrop Road who requested information relative to the petition for sewers they filed in early 1953. _Z_ Matter was discussed at length and Board informed them that time of installation depended on annual appropriation. Considered at length a proposed salary schedule of individual sal- aries for all employees. Voted to submit schedule as amended to Personnel Board for approval.
