HomeMy WebLinkAbout1953-11-09 Board of Public Works Minutes November 9, 1953 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at ' 7:30 P.M. Chairman Walker, Messrs. Hopkins, Johnson and Superintendent Welch were present. Mr. Johnson acted as Secretary Pro Tem. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Discussed charge for Water Main Extension in Pine Ridge Road, abutting Sturges Park. Voted to charge $2.25 per foot for extending the water main. Voted to appoint Mr. Walker to the newly formed Industry Invest- igation Committee. Voted to reemploy Mr. Edward Wright, fust released from Armed Forces, as a Junior Office Engineer at a salary of $1.50 per hour or $60.00 per week subject to the approval of the Personnel Board. Received letter from Personnel Board requesting that all proposed Classification changes and all proposed salary increases be filed with them not later than December 1, 1953. Voted to postpone the reconstruction of Hancock Street from Mineral Street to Woodbine Street until early in 1954 and to apply one coat of road oil now. Voted to approve request of Reserve Police that they be allowed to install an oil burner, oil fired heater and oil storage tank at the Revolver Range at the Mill Street Pumping Station. Voted following pole location; Oak Street - North Side - Pole 6511 moved 13 Ft.Westerly Considered following requests for abatements of street betterment assessments: William Lander - 88 Gleaners Circle - Request based on unusual shape of frontage. I -2- Abatement denied. Ralph Neumeyer - 54 Winslow Road - Request based on fact owner misstated amount of assessment. Abatemen7 denied. Carleton Patriqufn - 62 Whittier Road - Request based on fact he had a Bituminous Concrete Sidewalk and contractor did not havetD construct one at his property. Abatement of 7$ lin. £t at 00.75 per foot (Town charge for individual applications) granted. Dorothy Hutchinson - 26 Forest Street - Request based on fact that house faces Forest Street (Assessment is for work on Wadsworth Road) and she didn't want Street Anyway. Abatement denied. Ernest Dubois - 9 Tennyson Road - Request based contention that method of assessment is unfair. Abatement denied. ' Walter Duffy - 16 Tennyson Road - Request based on fact his lot has unusual frontage Abatement denied. Barbara Zimmer - 1 Whittier Road .- Request based on fact her lot has unusual frontage. Abatement denied. Considered proposed list of small salary increases for individual employees. Voted to grant the foa6wing increases; James Putnam - $3.10 per week John Tormey - 2.00 it Roger DeEntremont - 2.00 William Fennelly - 2.00 n n Richard Surrette - 3.20 Robert Tilton - 2.00 n Subject to approval of Personnel Board. Considered proposed reclassification of entire Department. Several suggested changes made. New Schedule to be drawn for further consideration by Board. -3- Voted to hold next meeting of Board on Monday, November 16, 1953. Board adjourned at 10:45 P. M.
