The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at '
7:30 P. M.
Messrs. Hopkins, Johnson, Kilgore, Superintendent Welch were
present.
Mr. Kilgore acted as Chairman:
Received petition for the acceptance as a public way of a portion
of Overlook Road between Springvale Road and Randall Road.
Placed on file pending hearing.
From 8:00 P .M. to 9:30 P.M. attended joint maiWing of represent-
atives of several Town Boards.
Several subjects were discussed in general such as, industrial
growth, housing developments, zoning laws, Board of Survey regulations,
school construction, acquisition of land areas for schools and recreation,
athletic field c onstruction in Birch Meadow, proposed salary schedules
for 1954, etc .
Two general agreements were made:
1. A Committee of eight persons, one each from eight Town
Departments is to be organized to investigate the pros
and cons of industrial development. Each Department to
chnose own representative.
2. Planning Board to make a review of zoning By Laws in
relation to the advisability of enlarging lot areas .
with the idea of preventing inexpensive housing .
developments.
Considered note from Superintendent explaining the Town Counsells
tentative opinion about Chapter 674 of the Acts of 1953 being the so
called "Development Control Law " .

Considered letter from Richard Austin, 10 Whittier Road, relative
to work done at his property when street was built and also considered
Superintendents reply.
Both placed on file.
Following Bituminous Concrete Sidewalk Application received,
approved and placed on file:

Following Granite Curbing Application received, ap7ved and
placed on file : Joseph Hackett - 215 Lowell Street
Received letter from Metropolitan District Commissioner relative
to Wakefield Connecting to Sewer Pumping Station and explaining how
costs of station operation are charged.
Received letter from Reading Reserve Police Association requesting
' permission to install heater oil burner and oil storage tank at revolver
range in- Mill Street Pumping Station.
Laid on table.
Board Adjourned at 10:45 P.M.
