The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at
7:3o P.M.
Chairman Walker, Messrs. Donahue, Hopkins, Johnson, Kilgore,
and Superintendent Welch were present.
Records of previous three meetings read and Epproved.
Following Bituminous Concrete Sidewalk Applications received,
approved and placed on file: /
Clair B. & Weslie R. Sherwood - 11 Wilson St .
Voted following pole locations:
Winter St. - Pole 103/6 moved one foot southerly.
Voted to request the Finance Committee for a transfer of $ 600.
from the Reserve Fund to the Sewer Construction Account to extend the
' sewer in Nichols Road to a new house under construction.
Considered note from Superintendent relative to new law covering
land developments.
Received letter from Mrs. Barbara Zimmer, 1 Whittier Road
requesting an abatement on her street betterment assessment.
Taken under advisement.
Considered answer to letter from Richard Jackson relative to
program of "Town Planning" to be conducted by the Neighborhood Better-
ment Association.
Voted to approve answering letter.
Discussed, in general, but at some length the problems and
programing of this Department.
Discussed, in general, the legally required reclassification of
' all municipal personnel as it applies to this Department.
Discussed letter of Harry Merchant, Jr. ,of 64 Scotland Road

relative to drain ditch through his property.
Superintendent reported this is a relatively major project.
Voted to suggest to Mr. Merchant that he dig a temporary ditch
near his easterly property line and that the Board would list the
project for construction as future funds become available.
Voted to award the contract for the access roads to the new
High School to the low bidder. 0 Menici and Sons at the bid price of
$ 86,975.88.
Signed four copies of the contract with 0. Meniei 'and Sons
Signed gas main location plan for the Malden h Melrose Gas Co .
in West Street from Oak Street to the Woburn Town Line.
Voted to hold next meeting of Board on Monday, October 26, 1953.
