The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at ,
7:30 P. M.
Chairman Walker, Messrs„ Donahue, .Johnson, Kilgore, Hopkins,
and Assistant Superintendent Putnam were present.
Records of Previous meeting read and approved.
Signed Orders of Taking of Easement, and related instruments,
for High School Sewer through lands of Brown, Conway, Zitzow, Merrill
and Higgins, from Hancock Street to Birch Meadow Playground,
The following Vote was unanimously adopted and hereby becomes
a part of the record:

At a regular meeting of the Board of Public Works duly held
at the Board' s Rooms in the Minicipal Building, Lowell Street,
Reading, on Monday, August 10, 1953, at 8:00 o' clock in the
evening, all the members of the said Board being present, the fol-
lowing vote was unanimously adopted.
Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was
VOTED: That in pursuance and under authority of Chapter 314
of the Acts of 1909 and vote of the Town at the annual Town
Meeting duly warned and held on March 23, 1953, that there be
and hereby is adopted an Order of Taking of an easement by right
of eminent domain for and in behalf of the Town in, over and through
the following parcels of land for sewerage and drainage purposes:
Land of Cyrus A. Brown and Della P . Brown situated Southerly
of Willow Street and said easement area is estimated to contain
71,308 square feet of land.
® Land of Bertha E. Conway situated Southerly of Willow Street
and Westerly of Lowell Street and said easement area is estimated
tocontain 27, 079 square feet of land. -
Land of Harris Zitzow situated at the junction of Lowell
Street and Intervale Terrace and said easement area is estimated
to contain 642 square feet of land.
Land of Richard E. Merrill situated Northerly of Intervale
Terrace and Easterly of Grove Street and said easement area is
estimated to contain 13,106 square feet of land.
Land of Louis E. Garono situated Northerly of Intervale
Terrace and said easement area is estimated to contain 13,622
square feet of land.
Land of Donald Higgins and Eleanor Higgins situated Westerly
of John Carver Road and said easement area is estimated to contain
11,74.5 square feet of land.
The above easement areas are shown on five sheets on Plan
Showing Taking for Proposed Sanitary and Force Main from
' Mineral Street to New Senior High School, Town of Reading,
Mass., Board of Public Works, dated June, 1953, Whitman & Howard,
Engineers, and to which Plan and Order of Taking reference is
hereby made for a more particular and complete description of
said easement area taken, and it is further voted that the Order
of Taking be recorded forthwith in the I4iddlesex South District
Registry of Deeds and that notice be sent to the owners and
mortgagees affected thereby as required by law,

Received letter from Mrs. Frank Stevens, 14 School Street,
requesting an abatement of a portion of her water bill.
Request denied.
Considered and discussed Chapter 134 of the General Laws of
1952 regarding approval of Board of Health on new land developments.
Received verbal request from Chief Eames of Fire Department
to use Town equipment to fill in an abandoned cistern in the rear of
the Reading Custom Laundry on John Street. After telephoned opinion
from Town 6ounsel Davis, voted not to use Town equipment to fill the
cistern.
Temporarily adjourned at 8:30 P.M. to meet as Board of Survey.
Reconvened at 9:15 P. M.

Voted following Town of Reading - Municipal Light Department
Pole Location:
Main Street - 1 Pole - on Easterly side of Street approximately
464 feet Southerly from Simmer Avenue,
relocate Pole 54/27 southerly 35 feet.
Voted to instruct Assistant Superintendent to write the Board
' of Selectmen to call a Special Town Meeting in mid September for the
purpose of changing the vote of the March Town meeting relative to
acquring land for the new sewer pumping station on the Northerly side
of Willow Street rather than on the Southerly side of Willow Street.
