HomeMy WebLinkAbout1953-03-26 Board of Public Works Minutes March 26, 1953 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:30 P.M. Chairman Walker, Messrs. Donahue, Johnson and Superintendent Welch were present. Records of previous three meetings read and approved. Conferred with Mr. William Burhoe, Mr. Frank Sawyer and Mr. Frank Dunn relative to the proposed Little League Field at the Corner of Pleasant Street and Eaton Street. Various problems were discussed at length. Board agreed to assist to some extent on the following items: 1. Design Plan 2. Grade Stakes 3. Use of Town Grader 4. Fix up Sidewalk Areas 5. Possible small section of Bleachers Received letter from Whitman and Howard with attached bids for making wash borings. Bids were as follows: John J. Boyle - 2.90 per lin ft. - No Minimum Amount B.F.Smith & Co.-3.00 " It it -200 Lin Ft. Minimum Voted to award boring contract to John J. Boyle. Received consulting engineers contracts from Whitman and Howard Covering work for access roads and sewer mains and pumping station. Laid on table. Received preliminary report from Superintendent on possibility of extending sewer in Oak Street, Oak Ridge Road and Pine Ridge Road. It is possible to extend the sewer but it would be expensive and sewer would have very flat grades. Considered recommendation of Superintendent that John Fleming / _2_ be appointed to the new position of Land Surveyor at the minimum salary of $7$.00 per week. Voted to approve the recommendation and to submit the choice to the Personnel Board for approval. Considered report of Superintendent to the affect that, in error, the name of Henry Libby was omitted from the proposed salary increase list as submitted to the Personnel Board. Voted to raise the salary of Henry Libby from $1.34 per hour to $1.42 per hour ($3.20 per wdek) and to submit the increase to the Personnel Board for approval. Board adjourned at 10:00 P.M.
