HomeMy WebLinkAbout1953-02-02 Board of Public Works Minutes February 2, 1953 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at ' 7 :00 P.M. Chairman Hopkins, Messrs. Johnson, Kilgore, Walker, Superintendent Welch were present. Received letter of thanks from Mr. Haley of Pratt Place for service rendered during snow storm of Jan. 9, 1953. and 10, 1953. Received letter from Selectmen requesting this Dept. to prepare a contract and specifications for the Parking Area off Haven Street in the near future. Received letter from Wm. Barrett, 38 Warren Avenue, relative to surface drainage at the dead end of Warren Avenue. Superintendent will investigate. Temporarily adjourned at 8:00 P.M. to meet as Board of Survey, Reconvened at 8:30 P.M. Voted to send letter signed by Chairman to Commr. Callahan of the State Dept. of Public Works, objecting to state snow plow's filling in sidewalks on Main Street. It was moved and seconded to assess street betterments against all abuttors on access roads to New High School.Assessment is to be the average cost per foot for the street betterment assessed in 1951 and 1952. Voted to lay motion on table Voted to request Town Counsel for an opinion as to whether or not it is legal to enlarge the service pipe entrance fee for the access roads to the New High School. Received letter from Mr. Joshua Day Jr„ Chairman of Finance Comm. stating that all new engineering employees are to be used solely -2- for the work of the Board of Public Works. Voted to approve proposed engineering classification descript- ions as prepared by Mr. Kilgore and submit same to Personnel Board. Received from Whitman & Howard preliminary report and estimate for the sewer extension to the new High School. Total is $215,000. Voted to prepare new budget sheets for the Finance Comm, in the amount of $215,000. Voted that all future contacts with Personnel Board shall be by letter only. Considered report that proposed salary schedule for 1953 as submitted to Personnel Board is not satisfactory to them. Voted to write letter, signed by entire Board, requesting Personnel Board to state in writing their objections and what changes they propose. Received letter from Selectmen inviting Board to attend a joint meeting of the Board of Selectmen, the School Comm. , the Finance Comm. , and the Board of Public Works on Friday Evening, February 6, 1953 to discuss problems relative to' the new High School.
