HomeMy WebLinkAbout1953-01-26 Board of Public Works Minutes January 26, 1953 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:00 P. M. Chairman Hopkins, Messrs. Donahue, Johnson, Kilgore, Walker, and Superintendent Welch were present. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Voted to abate the sum of $27.75 on the January 1953 water bill of Gerald Fosbroke, 75 Lowell Street, Reading, Mass. Hearing at 7:30 on proposed drain easement off Walnut Street through lands of Allan Sturges and Arthur Marchinko. Following persons present: William Warren - Representing Allan Sturges Arthur Marchinko 1 Both persons in favor of proposed easement. Voted to take a 20 foot drain easement through lands of Sturges and Marchinko - 10 feet on each side of property line. Voted to request Selectmen to request Town Meeting to release the present drain easement running entirely through lands of Marchinko (Formerly Mary S. Warren). Hearing at 7:45 P. M. on existing easement through lands of Florence Sargent, Grove Street, Reading, Mass. No one present. Mrs . Sargent sent letter requesting easement be released where it abuts Grove Street as Town does not use it. Voted to request Selectmen to request Town Meeting to release the easement where it abuts Grove Street. Informal Hearing at 8:00 P. Received letter from Wood and Metal Furniture Co. , of Lincoln Street, requesting that snow be removed from in front of their property after each snow storm. Voted to agree to request. Received estimates from Whitman and Howard for installing water mains and constructing roads to new High School - Total is $153,600. Voted to prepare budget sheets based on these estimates and submit. them to Finance Committee. Temporarily adjourned at 9:30 P. M. to meet as Board of Survey. Reconvened at 10:00 P. M. Voted to request Personnel Board to approve the appointment of John Yorks as meter repairman at $1.22 per hour, to replace Burton Carr who resigned. -3- Received petition from three abuttors of Woodland Street Fe- questing that Woodland Streatbe accepted as a public way from John Carver Road to Intervale Terrace. Placed on file pending necessary plan work and hearings. Voted to write Selectmen requesting additional space for added employees of Engineering Division. Received letter from Superintendent Welch relative to new Engineering Division employees and their duties for the Board of Public Works and other Town Departments. Voted to request Chairman to notify the Finance Committee in writing or in person that the added Engineering Division employees are to be used only for Board of Public Works projects. Voted to instruct Superintendent that all requests for engineer- ing services received from other. Town Departments be referred to the Board. Considered at length proposed 1953 Salary schedule for all employees. Voted to approve Schedule as amended and to submit schedule to Personnel Board as soon as possible. Adjourned at 11:45 P. M.
