HomeMy WebLinkAbout1952-07-07 Board of Public Works Minutes Reading, Mass. July 7,1952 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:00 P.M. Chairman Hopkins, Messrs. Kilgore, Walker and Superintendent Welch were present. Received letter from Personnel Board approving list of increases submitted on July 1, 1952. List included 28 employees mostly in the labor group. Received petition from several abutters on Mineral Street requesting that the sewer be extended in Mineral Street between Hancock Street and Summer Avenue. Placed on file pending preparation of plan, holding of hearing and availability of funds. jReceived application from American Legion requesting permission to hold a block dance on Lowell Street between Woburn Street and ruin Street on July 22, 1952. Permission granted. Received petition from several abuttors on Wood End Lane and Cape Cod Avenue requesting that better drainage facilities be installed in this area. Placed on file pending investigation and availability of funds. Voted following pole locations: Lowell Street - North Side - Pole $3/39-Moved 15 feet westerly. Received letter from Pittsburgh Des Moines Co., stating that because be of the steel strike the would not be able to start e y construction on the Elevated Water Tank as planned. i Temporarily adjourned at 7:30 P.M. to meet as Boerd of Survey. Reconvened at 7:45 P.M. Received letter from Edward Lonergan, 33 Evergreen Road, requesting permission to connect a cellar drain from his house to the public storm drain in Evergreen Road. Permission granted subject to the usual provisions. Held conference with the following persons all of whom are abuttors on Evergreen Road: J. H. Greene Dan Harrington H. E. Crocker H. T. Libby Herbert Walsh D. W. Franees John Cosenza H. C. Miller As near as could be determined the group. had two objectives: 1. To lower the approved grade and, 2. To eliminate any possible item, ' good or bad, which would decrease the ultimate cost. No action taken pending preparation of figures by Superintendent.
