Harrison, Walker, Kilgore, and Assist. Superintendent James Putnam were present. Mr. Walker acted as Chairman, Mr. Harrison as Secretary Pro Tem. Records of previous meeting read and approved. Received petition from one abuttor on Hillcrest Road request- Ing a short extension of the sanitary sewer. Placed on file pending preparation of a plan and holding a public hearing thereon. Voted to extend sick leave period for Ernest R. Watson for ' a two-week period. Voted that annual vacation period for majority of Public Works Employees be from July 12-27,1952. Received, perused and placed on file list of Classification and Minimum Wage Rates from State Dept. of Labor and Industries for Highway Construction (Contract) in Town of Reading. Voted to purchase one playground slide, if funds are available, to be placed in Washington Street Park. Read and approved text of letter sent Board of Selectmen in answer to their letter requesting a water main extension in Summer Avenue, near Prospect St. , Extension. Read letter from Town Counsel Samuel H. Davis stating his opinion on Board of Survey regulations regarding North (Private) Street. In his opinion, proposed street will require processing thru Board of Survey. Voted to approve location of gas main on Highland Street -2- between Locust and Auburn Street as submitted by Malden & Melrose Gas Co. , and signed location plan. Considered at some length resume of power grader bids, and unanimously voted to purchase Warco Grader from E. W. Systrom Co. at bid price of $9,095.00. Voted to' approve text of letter sent Personnel Board regard- ing Classifications and wages of Publicworks employees. Received letter from Merrill Home Construction Service regarding drain easements from Howard (Private) Street Northerly. Voted tb approve requests contained in letter, subject to approval of Superintendent Welch. Received application for extension of main trunk sanitary sewer on Oak Street, Oak Ridge Road and Pine Ridge Road, signed by a number of citizens, and presented by Selectman James E. Calvin. Placed on file pending perparation of survey of location. Received bids at 7 :30 P. M. on 1952 Street Betterment Construction. Following is a list of bidders and bids; - Lawrence Sand & Stone Co. -- $41,103.25 S. Rotoridi & Sons -- 59,625.00 Taken under advisement for further study. Received bids 'at 8;00 P. M. on Elevated Water Tank Found- ations. Following is a list of bidders and bids: De Stefano Const. Co. -- $16,664.00 L. & T. Const. Co. -- 14,840.00 Conti & Donahue -- 12,731.00 Voted to award contract for foundation to low bidder, -3- Conti & Donahue, subject to approval of Whitman & Howard, Consulting - Engineers. Mr. Pittendreigh of Whitman & Howard attended the bid opening. Hearing at 8:30 P. M. on extension of main truck sanitary sewer in Spring Street, from Orange St. Southerly.
