HomeMy WebLinkAbout1952-03-31 Board of Public Works Minutes Reading Mass, March 31,1952 The regular meeting of the Board of Public Works opened at 7:00 P. M. Messrs. Harrison, Walker, Superintendent Welch were present. Mr. Walker acted as Chairman. Received notice from Selectmen that they have approved the retirement application of John Ferrick. Received petition from 12 abuttors onTrackRoad, requesting that the road be accepted as a public way. Placed on file for action at 1953 Annual Town Meeting. Received petition from one abuttor on Pearl St. requesting an extension of the sewer in Pearl St. , northerly from the Pearl St. ' school. Placed on file pending preparation of a plan and arrangements for a hearing. - Received petition from 3 abuttors on Charles St. -requesting an extension of the sewer in Charles St. , easterly from Harrison St. Placed on file pending preparation of a plan and arrang- ements for a hearing. Received letter from Carl . Amon, 43 Bond St, requesting permission to connect a drain from his cellar to the public storm drain in Bond St. Voted to grant permission subject to the usual provisions. Received letter from Philip Trask, 106 Walnut St. requesting ' permission to connect an open end drain from his yard to the catch basin in Walnut St. All roof conductor pipes would also connect to the drain. No action taken. Discussed expenditure of special engineering funds voted ' at Town Meeting. Most of these funds are for engineering services, for special purposes such as surveys for sewer to High School, surveys for roadways to High School, surveys for drainage facilities, etc. Voted to continue the, employment of Whitman & Howard on these projects. Voted following pole locations: High St. - East side - Pole 41/37 moved 15t Southerly. Voted to authorize. Supt, to purchase a large power mower with attached reels and sulky for the Park Dept. Received letter from Little League requesting certain dates on.Washington St. Pk, for try out purposes. Voted to grant dates as requested. , Voted to hold meetings of Board on the evenings of April 7 - 2 - 28 and on May 12 - 26 with additional meetings to be held as required. . Received letter from.Board of Appeal stating they have refused jurisdiction on the Vivace Case, as the Town Counsel has ruled it belongs properly before the Board of Survey. Mr. Walter Fowler and Mr. Kenneth Hanson conferred with _ Board relative to proposed erection of homes on a portion of North St, which has not been approved by the Board of Survey. Voted to refer matter to Town Counsel.. Board adjourned 9:30 P.M. ; Respectfully Submitted: ecretary
